Aretha's voice was really something to wonder at throughout the 80s, and this was its last flowering in that decade. I have always loved this album, like the other reviewer, and would say it is a must for any fan of the music of that time. It is unusual in the sense that four of the eight tracks are duets, one is a straight re-release of the Arif Mardin-produced Come To Me from the 1980 album Aretha, her first for Arista, and another, Think, is a new version of her classic hit from the 60s. The new sound is matched by the difference in Aretha's tone, which, in my view, is even better than it was in the 60s. This is not to say that the recording is better, or even as good, but it is a wonderful thing to have anyway. In fact you can hear a slight thickening of the texture of the voice even from Come To Me, recorded nine years earlier. The songs produced by Narada Michael Walden are all scorchers: Gimme Your Love with James Brown sounds dry enough to start a bush fire; the duet with Whitney Houston has a superb bounce and sparring between the love rivals, all very tongue in cheek, while the title track with Elton John sounds a bit like I Knew You Were Waiting that was such a hit from the 1987 album. For me, this album really strikes sparks, and it would be quite impossible to imagine anyone else doing it, either then or since - no one else can glide around the notes with such freedom and intensity as Aretha, and her improvised phrases are a source of joy for ever ...

This CD, which originally came out in 1989, is really great. I read where it did not sell well back then but I certainly don't know why as it is another great Aretha accomplishment! I bought it used on Amazon.com and the CD was in excellent shape when I received it. I highly recommend it if you are an Aretha fan (and who isn't???). The version of "Think" (Blues Brothers) on this CD is my ABSOLUTELY FAVORITE!

This is a must for any Aretha Franklin collector. Yes, some of the songs are not ultra classics, but just to hear the duets with James Brown and with Whitney Houston are worth the price of the disc alone. I had this as an album years ago and am so pleased to have it again.

The Queen could sing the telephone book and it would be alright with me. The song Through The Storm has been going around in my head for a few days. The song with the 4 Tops is fabulous. And the remake of 'Think' is just awesome. 'Long Live The Queen'
