Maybe the best thing about American Idol is that, once it launches its stars, it sets them free. Fantasia, the self-titled sophomore set by the up-from-the-bootstraps 2004 series winner, sends out song after song that Simon would recoil over and great swaths of America would likely vote down in a heartbeat. Ripped from real life, these tracks are produced with both gumption and vision--a combination potent enough to smoke you out of your seat (see "Two Weeks Notice" and "Bore Me") and settle you back into it gently ("When I See U," "Surround U," "Bump What Ya Friends Say"). Unlike Free Yourself, Fantasia's first outing and one that wanted to work the crowd that crowned her an Idol, Fantasia's focus is de facto, de-poppified R&B--the unpretty kind. Barrino (Fantasia's last name, for those who've forgotten) brings it with a glimmering, gut-busting voice that suggests she's never seen a teleprompter before; she keeps it about as real as real gets. "Uneligible" and the Mary J. Blige-reminiscent "I Feel Beautiful" are slow burners--they linger--but by far the hottest track here is "Hood Boy." With its skittering Supremes sample and Big Boi rap, it does for refried '70s soul what Fantasia did for Idol: it makes you want to pay attention. --Tammy La Gorce

「大好きな歌が聞こえてくると、あなたの顔が思い浮かぶ」
「あなたの前ではシャイになってしまう」
そんな恋している乙女な歌詞が支持され、2007年のR&B年間チャート2位になった２.のWhen I See Youを筆頭に、
アメリカンアイドル出身の彼女独特の声を存分に生かしたアルバムに仕上がっていて、1stよりまとまっていてオススメです。
you tubeにアップされたこの曲に「この曲は○○（人名）のことを思い出す」という感想が多く寄せられていて涙腺ゆるみました。

OutkastのBig Boiをﾌｭｰﾁｬｰしたﾌｧﾝｷｰなﾘｰﾄﾞｼﾝｸﾞﾙ"Hood Boy"(Johnta Austinが新しい一面を披露してます)で幕を開けるこのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ、間違いなく傑作。

製作参加者をざっと挙げると。Bryan-Michael Cox, Babyface, Missy Elliott, Diane Warren, Swizz Beatz, Dre & Vidal, Midi Mafiaとこんな感じ。豪華。

前作ではｱｯﾌﾟ曲のﾄﾗｯｸと独特の声とに若干のｷﾞｬｯﾌﾟがあったものの、今回は彼女の声に合ったｵｰﾙﾄﾞｽｸｰﾙとｻｳｽｻｳﾝﾄﾞをﾐｯｸｽした感じのﾄﾗｯｸを使用することでそれも解消され、独自のｻｳﾝﾄﾞ造りに成功。ﾊﾞﾗｰﾄﾞ曲の方はすべての感情を吐き出すかのような歌い上げっぷりには脱帽。特にMissy絡みの作品が素晴らしい。

圧倒的熱量で迫る歌声が詰まった１枚。

フィンランドのプログレバンド、ファンタジアの1975年作
オルガンやムーグを含んだ古き良きシンセと、フィンランド語のヴォーカルで聴かせるやわらかなサウンド。
キャッチーな部分はCAMEL的な雰囲気もあるが、むしろプログレ以前のアートロック的な感触もあって、
どこかユルくておおらかな展開が微笑ましい。楽曲は3〜5分前後と、比較的あっさりしているが、
同時期のKAIPAなどに通じる土着的な質感や、しっとりとした素朴な叙情はなかなか魅力的だ。

People don’t realize how good Fantasia albums are. If you love a full mix of songs, ie: hip hop, upbeat and downtempo r&b...then get this album, it’s such a trip of a record. You can can twerk, snap, dance like no ones watching, slow dance with your special person, everything with this album. I’d say it’s her most versatile album, and truly her best. If you’re curious how I’d rank her albums, here’s my list (2-4 are really close to each other)

Fantasia gave us an awesome debut album with "Free Yourself," but it only gave us a taste of what was to come.

"Fantasia" is by far the best R&B album released this year. Fantasia works her voice like an instrument...she purrs, hmmms, squalls, and of course gives us her signature yeahs.

"Fantasia" opens with the radio friendly "Hood Boy," which features some rhymes from Outkast's Big Boi. Her vocals are outstanding on this track.

"Baby Makin Hips" has a beat that will have you dancing without even realizing it. This song will mesmerize you.

"I Nominate U" is for the lovers out there. Have some free time? Call over your boo and nominate him/her.

"Two Weeks Notice" is a fantasic song. Metaphors and analogies can be a bit risky, but this song is IT! Her vocals are hot, and there is a little snap feel to it.

"I Feel Beautiful" is for the people who need a little encouragement. We all have those days. This song will work best in front of a mirror--sing it loud!

YAWN! No, I'm not sleepy, but you're starting to "Bore Me." This track is very cute and features the vocals of Rico Barrino.

The closing track is my FAVORITE track. "Bump What Your Friends Say" takes you back to Aretha type vocals. What a way to end the album!

"Fantasia" is an excellent sophomore effort!

I still echo the same sentiments posted in my review of her "Back To Me" album. There were however a couple of songs that did not I like, and this is purely from an song composition and not her singing ability. So of the three CDs I have, which are all good to great, this is my third best. One this is a fact though, Fantasia has a great singer and has not got the recognition she deserves.

Fantasia gewann 2004 die dritte Staffel von "American Idol". 2006 veröffentlichte sie ihr zweites Album "Fantasia".
Das Booklet besteht aus einem Poster von Fantasia, die Songtexte sind leider nicht enthalten.

1. Hood boy (feat. Big Boi) 4,5/5
Der Album-Opener ist auch die erste Single aus dem Album und beinhaltet ein Feature von Big Boi von OutKast. Der Song hat einen coolen Beat und Rhythmus und sorgt für gute Laune.

2. When I see u 4,5/5
Eine der bekanntesten und erfolgreichsten Singles von Fantasia, die auch für zwei Grammys nominiert wurde. Es handelt sich um einen eher ruhigen R'n'B-Song, bei dem Fantasia ihre sanftere Seite zeigt.

3. I nominate u 4/5
Auch dieser Song geht in die R'n'B-Richtung, plätschert aber eher vor sich dahin. An sich ist der Song nicht schlecht, sticht aber auch nicht besonders hervor.

4. Baby makin' hips 4,5/5
Auch dieser Song ist ein R'n'B-Songs, der Refrain klingt aber etwas auffälliger als der bei "I nominate u".

5. Not the way that I do 4/5
Auch dieser Song plätschert leider ein wenig dahin und ist nichts Besonderes, auch wenn er wirklich nicht schlecht ist.

6. Only one u 4,5/5
Die dritte und letzte Single aus dem Album klingt ein wenig besser als die vorherigen Tracks, auch zeigt Fantasia hier etwas mehr von ihrer eigentlich sehr starken Stimme.

7. I feel beautiful 4,5/5
Dieser Song wurde von der legendären Diane Warren geschrieben und ist ein wenig ruhiger, allerdings (leider) keine richtige Ballade. Trotzdem ist der Song super, auch wenn man noch mehr hätte rausholen können!

8. I'm not that type 4/5
Hier zeigt Fantasia erneut ihre coole und lässige Seite. Ein weiterer guter Song!

9. Uneligible 4/5
Dieser Track ist eher kurz und fällt nicht besonders auf. Leider kein Highlight auf dem Album, obwohl der Song auch nicht schlecht ist.

10. Two weeks notice 4,5/5
Gegen Ende dieses Songs geht Fantasia stimmlich etwas mehr aus sich heraus, was gut klingt. Davon bräuchte es stellenweise ein bisschen mehr!

11. Surround u 4,5/5
Auch hier zeigt Fantasia ihre starke Stimme, auch wenn diese bei Balladen noch wesentlich besser zur Geltung kommen würde. Auch "Surround u" ist ein R'n'B-Song mit einem lässigen Refrain.

12. Bore me (Yawn) 4/5
Nun folgt der kürzeste Song auf dem Album. Laut Wikipedia singt hier ihr Bruder Ricco Barrino mit, im Booklet der CD lässt sich dazu nichts finden.

13. Sunshine 4,5/5
Auch "Sunshine" ist ein cooler R'n'B-Song, der Refrain klingt ziemlich gut. Gegen Ende rappt Fantasia sogar noch!

14. Bump wha ya friends say 4,5/5
Als letzter Track folgt ein etwas ruhigerer Song, der allerdings auch keine Ballade ist. Ein schöner Abschluss für das Album!

Insgesamt ist Fantasia mit "Fantasia" ein schönes R'n'B-Album gelungen, das allerdings ohne richtiges Highlight auskommen muss. Alle Songs gehen in eine relativ ähnliche Richtung und heben sich deswegen größtenteils nicht voneinander ab. Für R'n'B-Fans und Fans von Fantasia kann ich dennoch eine Kaufempfehlung aussprechen!
