Their second album and first for Interscope is almost wholly brilliant. Like Mogwai, Sigur Ros and a dozen others, TVOTR excels at making slowly-evolving tunes with vaguely anthemic choruses and lots of loud-soft dynamics. Unlike virtually any of those other bands, TV on the Radio mix a genuine and actual songwriting ability with their knack for finding sounds that appear to be "new." This record is crisper-sounding and incorporates more dance-based elements, but it's essentially a pop album. While the lack of the free web-released "Dry Drunk Emperor, a tribute to President Bush, is initially a bummer, the album percolates with enough pre-apocalyptic tension to satisfy anyone. In a Prince-pitched falsetto, the group sings "I was a lover/ Before this war," While throughout, the combination of melody and invention is always pitch-perfect (well, except on "Province" and "Let the Devil In," those songs sort of suck.) People of Earth: please make this band into total superstars and buy several copies of their album: one for the car, another for the office, etc. What we really need in our popular music is more weirdness, and more truth. --Mike McGonigal

８０年代末期から９０年代初頭にかけて、ミクスチャーロック/クロスオーヴァーというのが大流行したが、このTV　ON　THE　RADIOというグループは、正しくミクスチャー、これ以上は無いと言える程の徹底したグツグツごった煮サウンドを聴かせる。ハードロック、オルタナティヴ、インダストリアル、Ｒ＆Ｂ、ヒップホップ、ファンク、ダブ、ワールドミュージックetcetc...。オールドスクールからニュースクールまで、ありとあらゆるジャンルを呑み込んで、それらが別の何かを侵食したり圧することもなく、最高のバランスでブレンドされ、究極の美味濃厚スープを抽出した、といった趣なのだ。しかも、現在ロックシーンにおいての、最先鋭サウンドと呼べるものであるにも関わらず、その楽曲自体については、極めて親しみやすいポップ感に溢れており、こういったバンドにありがちなとっつき難さは微塵も感じられない。いやはや、凄いグループが現れたものだ。RADIOHEADやBjorkの近作に、最近やや行き詰まり感があるだけに、次代のシーンの牽引役として、彼らの存在が大きく取り上げられる日もそう遠くは無いのでは、と思わせる強烈な作品だ。SPIN誌で、昨年のナンバー１アルバムに選出されたのも十分に頷ける。

This has always been one of my favorite albums of all time..You really cant find this in any record store (especially in western Pennsylvania). So glad I finally ordered it..Sounds amazing and really overstepped all expectations. TV on the Radio is the best band that no one knows about..They really hit the mark on this one, they even got David Bowie to feature on Province..An iconic record that needs to be praised by everyone. Oh and there's a pleasant, unexpected surprise when you open it..I cant say what it is though..haha

Forse solo oggi, a 15 dalla loro comparsa, si intuisce l'importanza di questa band newyorkese. Oggi che le contaminazioni tra le varie branchie della musica nera e il rock sono un dato assodato, oggi che parlare di gospel pagani o gospel rock è cosa consueta, allora è chiaro quali e quante porte hanno aperto i TV on the Radio. E lo hanno fatto con un paio di album davvero originali tra cui questo "return to cookie mountain" del 2006 è probabilmente il più bello. Soul da nuovo millennio mi viene da dire, ma qui ci sono cadenze dub, passaggi hip hop, ritmiche marziale di stile post punk (senza o con poche chitarre, qui il suono digitale è al top) e altro ancora. Entrate nel futuro con i TV on the Radio.

This is the first album I have bought by this band. I love how every song sounds different and it keeps the overall sound of the album interesting. The vocals are also very unique and I like the dynamic of the group as a whole, they all bring something different to the music. The lyrics are also rather intriguing. Favourite tracks would definitely be Wolf Like Me and I Was A Lover. Very enjoyable album.
