Amazon

But - music is universal. Her words put into music still give you that sense of magic and peace and painful sweetness. It's probably like listening to monks chant - you have no idea what they're saying, but you still do get the point. "Dekimo Ikenai" conveys gallantry, you'll feel Izumi's inocence in "Kimini Aitaku Nattara", and "Ano Hohoemiwo Wasurenaide" gives you a glimpse of her playful and flirty side. "Forever You" is now rather poignant and wistful, deepens your longing for what could have been, or for what once was.
Izumi (or Sachiko, her real name) died on 27 May 2007, rather suddenly. She slipped / fell / jumped from a 3-meter emergency exit at Keio University Hospital whilst undergoing treatment for cervical cancer. A dramatic end for someone who thrived on anonimity.
Unlike her mundane public presence, her death was grieved by an entire generation of Japanese. Whilst she could ride the Tokyo subway at the height of her fame in the 90's, whilst her profile photos were posted on buses and billboards, she remained oddly... normal. In death, she became what she was not (or strived not to be) in life: remarkable. Now she belongs to the ages.
So folks like me could still discover her music and still feel the magic.
