1973年の同名カルト映画のリメイク。オリジナル版のキワモノ感は薄らいだものの、ニコラス・ケイジが主演したことで、別の意味の怪しい面白さは増している。目の前で起こった自動車爆発事故にショックを受けた警官メイラスの元に、かつての婚約者から手紙が届く。彼女の故郷であるサマーズアイル島で、少女の失踪事件が起きたというのだ。その少女が自分の娘ではないかという疑念とともに、島へ向かったメイラスだが、そこで彼は奇妙な住民たちに翻弄されることに…。

タイトルでネタバレしてすいません。
まあ、そんな感じの映画です。
ラジー賞5部門独占。保証付きのダメ映画です。
リメイク元はケルト宗教とキリスト教の対立が底にあるらしいですけど、
本作ではそこらへんはがっつり削って「田舎女怖えー」映画に単純に纏めちゃってます。
敵側はそれでも良いんですけど、主役側のバックボーンにキリスト教倫理が無くなった分「田舎者への見下し」と「銃持ってりゃいけんだろ的アメリカンの傲慢」が思いっきり表に出ちゃってニコラス・ケイジに感情移入し辛くなってます。
ここ、何とかならんかったのかな…
ラストシーンは胸糞な人も居るでしょうけど、唯一の見せ場ですし、私は楽しめました。
(足はいかんですよ。超痛そう）
しかし、優秀な種馬は生かし続けようというエコ感覚に欠ける彼女らは実にけしからんですな。
それともニコラス・ケイジの種はそー優秀でも無かった？
(少なくとも頭髪面は優秀ではないですからね…)

クセになる面白さ(笑)
世界のニコケー、何故これに出た！抜擢された！
そして引き受けた！に尽きる(笑)

(笑)ばっかりのレビューになってしまうけど
私の様に「ムショ～にクセになる面白さ」と
思ってる方も居ると思います、だって本当に

救いようのない映画？ニコケー？
グロい描写もないし、島自体は綺麗だし、
そう…かの有名な【ミッドサマー】チックな映画。
元ネタ映画は見てませんが、
ニコケー好きなら見れなくもないです。
ただ、これでニコケーを嫌いにならんといて下さい！
彼は必至で自分の役目を果たしたので笑笑笑笑笑笑
※ダメだ「笑」ばっかりだやっぱ笑笑笑

こんな映画があってもいいし、
大物がこんな映画に出たっても全然いいんだよが
詰まりに詰まった結構見れる映画です、まだの方は是非^^;

僕、こういう雰囲気の映画大好きなんですよ。なんか謎に包まれつつホラーという。どんどん話に引き込まれていくし展開もいい。ただオチを聞いてもフーンとしか思いません。だって島の住民があんな感じだし母親の態度も妙だ。しかしラストの「アイツ」は迫力あった。あそこで身震いした。でももうちょっとバレないようにできなかったのかな〜

普通に呼べば良かったんでは？
行方不明になった娘を探して欲しいと元カノから頼まれて
謎の風習が残る島へ単独で捜査に行く刑事さん。
島全体の陰気臭さと不気味さはとても良かったと思われます。

ただ腑に落ちない演出やテンポの悪さが目立ちました。
主人公にあまり魅力も無いのも残念。
さすがにこの主人公は高圧的すぎるし行動が浅はかで無礼、
ニコラスケイジに求めるイメージとは合って無い気がします。

※以下ネタバレ

冒頭の事故は何か重要な伏線かと思いきや特に意味も無し。
ケイジをおびき寄せる演出にしては少々無理がありました。

島内での聴き込みも島民の不気味さを出していて良かったのですが、
終始そのパターンでそれ以上のものは感じれなかった。
もう少し二転三転するかと思いましたが期待外れでした。

そんな感じで時間は過ぎるとも進展はせず、助けを呼んだはずの元カノも協力的ではなく、
とてもじれったい展開。
この辺りも最後に一気に回収するのかと思いきやそれも無し。

やりたいことは分かるのですが、フィクションやファンタジーな部分を差し引いても不合理すぎました。
わざわざ娘を行方不明扱いしておびき寄せる必要性もありませんでしたし、
ガッツリ役割を果たしたパイロットを殺害した意味も無かったように思われます。

刑事が行方不明の人間を探しに行ってる訳ですから、そのことを周囲に話しているはず、
なので口封じの意味も無いうえ、リスクしかありません。
適当な外部の人間を誑し込んで移住させてサクっとした方が合理的です。

付け加えるならケイジに対してあそこまで不穏な行動をせずとも儀式は執り行えたはずです。
下手すると何らかの手段で警官隊の助けを呼ばれる恐れもあります。
ピザを片手にやってくるマッチョポリスメン相手ではどうしようも無いでしょうに。
むしろケイジの身を案じた仲間がラストシーンで雪崩れ込んで来た方が良かったまであります。

あとケイジのハチアレルギー設定いるぅ？？
庭先で勝手にぶっ倒れるんだしもうそのまま拘束しとけよ。
でも普通におばちゃんにフックを食らわし、ねーちゃんに蹴りをかましたのは評価できました。
モヤモヤしたものが残る終わり方でしたが、そこそこな作品だったかと思われます。

The Wicker Man 'l'homme d'osier est un film de 2006, à classer dans la catégorie ''Mystères et rites d'hier à aujourd'hui''
mettant en scène le très bon acteur de ''l'Hollywoodland'' : Nicolas Cage ( pay the ghost, le chaos, volte/face, le dernier templier, l'apprenti sorcier, 8 millimètres, snake eyes, helldriver.....). On retrouvera aussi au casting : Ellen Burstyn vu dans l'exorciste, dans le rôle d'une guide suprême appelée 'soeur summerside'.
Il est le remake du film au même nom de 1973 avec Christopher Lee , qui lui aussi est une adaptation du roman du britannique David Pinner : Ritual, sorti en 1967.

En résumé

Dans celui de 2006, Nicolas interprète le policier californien 'Edward Malus', victime de troubles visuelles suite à une intervention traumatisante ; recevant une demande de son ex-compagne pour enquêter sur la présumée disparition de son son enfant sur une île privé aux large des côtes de l'état de Washington. Ile très étrange, autosuffisante, qui 'sent l'hydromel' et dominée par des paysannes appelées 'soeurs' qui cultivent une vénération à la nature...et un culte au dieu soleil bel.
Edward se retrouvera seul, coupé du monde et se verra être l'instrument d'un jeu dont le but final sera sa rencontre avec 'l'homme d'osier'.

les origines festives du 1er mai.

le film est intéressant en soi. Il est bien interprété. Les lieux sont bien choisis.
Les soeurs 'sorcières' de l'île rappellent bien que les rites d'un autre âge et certaines pratiques
perdurent dans le temps. Ce film nous averti et pointe du doigt une période clef du 'calendrier satanique' :
du 19 avril au 1er mai a lieu, la période de la fête néo-paiënne celtique d'origine européenne : beltane.
Durant cette période, ces sorciers et sorcières (aveugles au mal) festoient pour : la récolte', la prospérité', la fertilité' et la purification'.
Bien entendu, ces personnes déguisées passent par le 'sacrificiel' et par le feu : pour honorer leur dieu à cornes.
Certaines dates sur le calendrier sont importantes ainsi que leurs nombres.
Renseignez-vous car certains faits divers, tout comme les disparitions inexpliquées, ne sont peut-être pas le fruit d'un hasard !

This film is the very definition of "so bad it's good". When I heard there was going to be a remake of the Wicker Man starring Nicholas Cage, I couldn't understand why. The original was so perfectly paced, so subtly executed and so hauntingly unsettling that there was absolutely no reason for a remake. People already knew about this film, it was on terrestrial television once a year or once every couple of years, Americans seemed to like it and Christopher Lee is always a draw. Why would they even bother to remake it? Sure, Cage can deliver some great performances with the right direction, but Edward Woodward wasn't going to be topped or even matched. It struck me as your typical pointless remake for the sake of a remake.

After watching the film, I am so, so grateful that they did this. It's one of the most unintentionally hilarious pieces of cinema I've ever witnessed. Cage chews up every piece of scenery on the set, there's gratuitous yet near-slapstick man-on-woman violence in about one out of every six scenes, a bear costume for no reason and so many ridiculous lines that it gives The Room a run for its money ("What's in your bag? A shark or something?"). Plus, give them credit for at least trying something different - Cage's character Edward Malus is not celibate like Neil Howie in the original, and the missing girl is actually his former stepdaughter. This is an attempt to make it a little more personal, and while it fails due to lack of any development in their on-screen relationship, I at least appreciate them shaking things up a bit. Plus, the pagans in this version rely on honey rather than a fruit harvest, and the religious undertones aren't quite as strong in this as they were in the original. These aren't criticisms or praise, they're just further evidence that Neil Labute attempted something new with this and if nothing else he deserves respect for not doing the safe thing and just remaking it shot-for-shot.

But really, over-analysing this beautiful mess is a wasted exercise, because you're not watching it as a true comparison to the original. It transcends the original and becomes its own brilliant disaster. You're watching it for the diabolical acting and dialogue. You're watching it for the hysterically bad fight scenes. You're watching it for the absolute best and worst scene Nicholas Cage has ever performed in his entire career ("Not the bees! Arrrgh!"), and you're watching it in the gratifying knowledge that, while it's absolutely dreadful, it's constantly entertaining and memorable. There are films like The English Patient and Ordinary People that are technically well made films but aren't in the least bit remarkable, and there are films like Biodome and Batman and Robin which are absolutely irredeemable failures on every level. But then, there are films like Battlefield Earth and Cool As Ice that are so terrible in every aspect that they actually become pretty entertaining. The Wicker Man remake is the king of those.

Highest recommendation possible.

1) Do traffic cops not know how to get people they pull over to park safely?
2) Why was the little girl acting so badly?
3) Why was he not confused by seeing his daughter in an accident?
4) Why did he not mention this to his ex-fiancé?
5) How did the technology free island come by its headed notepaper?
6) Why was the other cop acting (with no rationale) like his ex might be dangerous?
7) How could he think the tiny bundle might be a shark?
8) Why is he acting so badly on the island? It’s like he’s developed a sudden mental health problem
9) How come the islanders don’t know the word ‘cop’ but recognise ‘tapes’
10) Why does he accept ‘Why does anyone do anything’ as a good reason for the breakup?
11) Why is he traumatised by seeing an accident that wasn’t?
12) Why did his fiancé invite him to the island then warn him away from there?
13) Why does the remote, secretive island have a large guest house?
14) Why does Nicholas Cage think ‘the day of tomorrow’ would be a common expression on an island he’s never visited before?
15) How and why would you possibly trap a large bird like a crow in a school desk?
16) Aren’t ‘dead’ and ‘the human life is over’ basically the same thing?
17) If the island has no technology, how did his ex manage to take a Polaroid of their daughter?
18) Why would the cult have a, fairly modern looking, books Called ‘Rituals of the Ancients’ lying around, in case someone forgot how to do their centuries old ritual?
19) Would a man allergic to bees not feel beehives hold certain inherent dangers?
20) Why does Nicholas Cage think his daughter is dead when there might as well be a sign hanging up saying SHE WILL BE SACRIFICED AT THE MID-SUMMER FESTIVAL TOMORROW
21) Why does the High Priestess seem familiar with the idiomatic speech that’s so confused the others?
22) What’s the point of the false grave when everyone knows the truth anyway? If it was specifically dug to confuse Cage, then why let it be exhumed?
23) Cage heard his daughter crying from, er, underwater? Then someone traps him there when he isn't supposed to die there anyway!
24) Why would they be keeping the girl required for sacrifice in a flooded underground cavern anyway?
25) Why does the teacher who says they don’t use the word ‘death’ later use it herself?
26) Why is Nicholas Cage talking about murder when he believes the girl to be alive?
27) Why does he barely appear shocked by the first body yet vomits when he sees the second one?
28) Why does the girl who begs him to take her with him later violently attack him?
29) Why is the little girl different to the earlier one in the car, and who, if not his ex, was the disappearing woman in the car supposed to be? If they were the ones briefly glimpsed in the crowd, then what was the reason for their earlier behaviour?
30) Who makes a horror film with every scene being outdoors in the daylight?
