There are SO MANY great patterns here, all of them charted and with full-color photos. I've made the first one (the one in the upper left corner of the cover), and had no issues at all with the charted design, despite the fact that the few written instructions are in Japanese. The chart is very clear, and you have the detailed photo as a guide, too. There are pineapples, "mandala"-type, circular filet, a few ruffles, too. Really, something for everyone.
It appears that most of the patterns call for size 40 thread -- too small for my over-65-yr-old eyes, so I substitute size 10 (or 20) with a size 1.50mm (1.15mm) hook. Seriously, any thread pattern can be made using any thread (or yarn for that matter) with the corresponding hook size. The size of the finished item will be different, but most of the time for doilies, that's not too much of an issue.
My goal is to work through this book one by one, using different types of thread (solids, ombré, variegated, etc.), framing some of them as wall art. This should keep me busy for a LONG time.
(Doily in photos are made from #1 in the book, using size 10 thread and 1.50mm hook. It measures about 14" diameter.)
