当時観て面白かったのでプライムで再視聴しました。
人の暖かさを感じるお話だけど少しの残酷さがあり、それがピリッと良いスパイスになっているような、全体的に不思議なお話です。
作中に出てくる小説家志望のインド人のお兄ちゃんはMナイトシャマラン監督ご本人です。

Mナイトシャマラン監督の作品はいくつか観ていてどれも好きです。
今まで無かったタイプの作風だなーと思っています。

この映画はファンタジーですが、実際には「物語について」の物語です。

ヒロインの名前はストーリー。
ストーリーが「世界を救う」を手助けをするためアパートの管理人が力を貸すというお話です。

ストーリーを外敵から守り、ハッピーエンドへと導くアパートの管理人が
まるで映画監督のように見えてきます。

そういった風に表層をなぞるよりも深読みこそが楽しい映画です。

その深読みをした上でシャマラン監督ご本人の批評家への恨みが爆発するシーンや
監督ご本人の役など見ると非常に微笑ましいです。

映画ファンだけでなく創作ファンにはぜひとも見ていただきたい一作です。

公開当時から長年気になってて、やっと観られた映画。
映画を視聴してた時間を返してくれとは言わないが、長年なんとなく、折に触れて気になってた気持ちが成仏どころか、若干悪霊になりかけた。
シャマラン先生の悪いところがめっちゃ出てる。
一番瞳孔開いたシーン：片腕鍛えマン＝プラネットテラーのにーやんや！

アパートの管理人である主人公がアパートの住人と協力してひとりの少女を救おうと奮闘するストーリーです。
派手な内容ではなく、スリリングなシーンも少なめなため、そういった映画を求めている方にはおすすめできません。
ストーリーの中で、主人公と住人たちの心の変遷がとても魅力的で優しい気持ちになれます。
シャマラン監督といえば最後のシーンですが、とてもよかったです。
映像・演出がとても美しく素敵でした。「神聖さ」を強く感じられました。

難しくない内容です。途中モンスターが現れるので少し怖いですが、小学生くらいなら見られる内容だと思います。

In just under two hours, M. Night builds an entire new mythology and then bounces us around in it like a pinball in a pinball machine.

In my opinion, it was too random, too complex and too odd, but it was interesting and held my attention for those almost two hours.

Bryce Dallas Howard was a good choice. You needed someone who was beautiful, but in a very odd way...and she fits the bill.

I liked it. I can kind of see how others might not. I enjoyed it though. It was really out of the ordinary. It is also very clean. No profanity. No nudity. Etc. I'm happy I saw it.

There was only a 30 day return window on the DVD I bought as a birthday present but they didn’t watch the movie until 1 week ago and it is missing the last 30 mins of the movie. I’m just out of the money with no possible money back or a new DVD with the entire movie?

This was a great movie imo, altho the critics slated it I presume because the monster was a bit wooden.....however its a great story to watch as a family, perhaps because it IS rather child-like in its fantastical way....yet carries much wisdom......behind the storyline is some quite deep truth which gives an adult something to ponder ....I recommend it far and wide as I feel it has some profound truth in it about settling into your real role in life as opposed to the one you think you ought to have.....we all have a right calling and a right place and role, this movie gently reveals how that can work as we come together thro love to try and help another in trouble....and just let go and let our hearts show us the way.....

This is one of my favorite movies from M. Night Shyamalan. Ron Howard's daughter plays the "Lady In The Water" & Paul Giamatti is wonderful as the apartment manager who discovers her. The entire cast of characters are wonderful with M. Night Shyamalan taking a starring role, as well. It is Rated PG13 so teens would enjoy the plot & I'm a big chicken & will not watch scary movies, it is a mild thriller with a great story plot. I'm in my late 50's & convinced my younger sister (middle 50's) to watch it one evening with me. She absolutely loved it, too.

Lady in the Water was a film I missed when it came to the cinema. Despite being a huge fan M Night the synopsis didn't inspire me, I'm not really into fairy tales and to me, the plot sounded nonsense. I eventually came across the movie again while browsing Amazon and decided what the heck, give it a go! To be honest I was surprised and enjoyed it immensely. To be fair its not a classic like Sixth Sense or as good as Unbreakable or Signs but to me it was very well acted and wove an intriguing plot that kept me glued right to the end.
I wont go over the story but Paul Giamatti is a wonderful and diverse actor who's character you really care for as he attempts to protect the equally talented Bryce Dallas Howard from invisible supernatural wolf like creatures. M Night also makes an appearance as a side character that is much more significant than his usual cameos. His appearance augments the portfolio of interesting quirky characters that constitute the local community that exist around the communal swimming pool Giamatti cares for. Its vastly interesting and entertaining how the somewhat isolated residents of the flats are drawn together and united as a community with the common goal of protecting Bryce's character.
The type of story and characterisation of the film reminded me of some of Steven King's best books, for example It . By this I don't mean that M Night is ripping off Steven King but the way he develops the characters who unite to help protect the Lady in the Water is carried in out in a simlarly intriguing fashion. None of the characters are super heroes, they all have their own faults and quirks and this is what mmakes the film so interesting.
As with many of M Nights other films they are, in places, humourous, exciting and touching. I would definitely recommend to fans of M Night or viewers who aren't looking for an action and can suspend their belief. If you can do that then consider this movie 4 stars. If you haven't enjoyed M Night's previous films then subtract 2 stars and avoid.
