Arrived quickly and and in good condition - a great CD - the music in this musical is so easy to listen to and tells the story in a fabulous way. Kinky Boots wins the Tony

If you don't live near NYC, or aren't going to visit anytime soon, you should take out the "Kinky Boots" movie from 2005. It's a pretty spectacular little show. You'll come away from the video thinking that the lead guy in that movie is pretty spectacular too. Mind you, it won't blow you away like the Broadway show, but it'll prepare you for this soundtrack disc.

There are so many reasons this show won the Tony, Cindi Lauper's score won the Tony, and so did Billy Porter who plays Lola.

Well, give Harvey Fierstein high credit for writing the book for the Broadway show, and for the producer's genius to get Cyndi Lauper to do the score. On so many levels, this is a great thing. One, Cyndi winning the Tony for the score, and first woman to do so. Two, for showing the multidimensional talent of Cyndi. How great is it that an 80's star, who's had a pretty great singing career, can totally blow it out with this musical endeavor. She is so very talented. When you hear the cast singing her music, those of you who know Cyndi's music can hear her melody lines, in fact, the way she runs her notes, in many of the songs. Quite challenging for the cast to sing I bet.

Kinky Boots, the show, is such a spectacular, uplifting concept. Shame if you can't see the show--I did in May 2013, and it was one of the most powerful, fun, entertaining, and positive Broadway shows I've seen in 30 years. It was a great theme in the movie from 2005 and even more meaningful today: all people have worth, to be understanding and accepting of folk's differences, the strength that comes from a team pulling together, that good things can come true (they saved the English old men's shoe factory by retooling and cranking out cross dressers high heeled Kinky Boots).

This musical builds and builds until the climax totally knocks you down. Hats off to the group for singing it all, in the end, while wearing those really high heeled boots. Billy Porter, who played the amazing Lola, wearing high heeled kinky shoes and boots through the entire show, also won a well deserved Tony. You can hear his voice clearly through this entire disc. Notable is Billy's emotion charged solo near the end of the disc. It was an event to see him do it live, almost, as if, one of the top divas in music who left us recently had returned to the stage and was inhabiting him. Billy Porter is a force of nature, and you can hear this great star on the disc.

I'm not sure what songs we'll be singing together in the future from Kinky Boots. But this show rocks, promotes positive themes and thoughts, and it's based on a true story. This is a real fun soundtrack. Enjoy.
