私感ですが、Capitol(24-bitリマスター)盤よりも音が良く感じました
L'Estasi Dell'oro (The Ecstasy Of Gold)では

The Good, Bad and Ugly -- But this One is ALL Good ...
This CD release is really the way you want to experience what is arguably one of the most iconic soundtracks ever made for a movie. As has been pointed out by other reviewers, the more commonly known soundtrack release of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly (seen
here
) is acceptable, but is unfortunately missing a couple of scenes, and perhaps more importantly, was not carefully restored since the time of the movie's original release. The soundtrack reviewed here, however, is the result of Morricone's participation in a comprehensive remastering process for the soundtrack, and it's a pity that this disc (an import from Europe) is not well known in the US, for it is without question the best release of the soundtrack ever produced.
It is likely that when GBU was being created in the mid 1960's, no one, not even the director or the actors themselves, could have predicted the place this movie would eventually take in film history. Ennio Morricone had already been established as a compositional genius by those who knew him at the time, but this movie would be the manner in which his musical art would be made instantly recognizable by millions of people around the world. While the film was in production, however, there was no telling it would be a success. In fact, the movie faced a barrage of criticism from nearly all quarters upon its release, and so it seemed for a while that this new genre (the "spaghetti western") would quickly fade to the quirky corners of the idiosyncratic enthusiast. But in time--and in no small part due to Morricone's musical treatment, which was played endlessly by AM radio stations across the United States--the film began to gain attention. The rest is history, and now the movie rightly holds a place as one of the most acclaimed works of filmography. Yes, it's too long, and yes, the limitations of the budget shows somewhat in some of the shots, as does the antiquated camera techniques before steadycam was invented, but all that's irrelevant. This is a move that one "wallows" in, and it stands up over repeated, and more repeated, and repeated again, viewings.
And this is in large part due to Morricone's score. This composer, who has scored some 500 movies at this point in time, developed a score for "GBU" that is haunting, funny, contradictory, spooky, and intriguing. The work has become so iconic that some of the tracks are easily on the lips of people in all parts of the world, and have been reproduced in countless venues. It may have been Morricone's greatest work, and he has been lavished both praise and awards for his composition.
You can purchase the cheaper, less-well improved US release, but in honesty, if you are a fan of the music (and there are few who are not), this release will give you the original soundtrack greatly improved due to the remastering process (and, again, under Morricone's oversight and approval) and that makes it more than worth the ten extra dollars or so you'll pay for this release. (You'll also get the "missing" tracks on this release, which is a great).
This truly unique piece is an easy five star recommendation for quality, for coverage, and, yes, even for price.
Some Tidbits:
These are listed in the liner for this CD, most of which I did not previously know:
- GBU was the first time the Director, Sergio Leone, asked Ennio Morricone to score all the music BEFORE filming the movie
- This process allowed Leone to develop the story and choreograph the scenes based on how the musical score played
- Morricone's use of whistling, voice, and electric guitar was unknown in Westerns before this time
- The main theme is based on only two notes: A-D-A-D-AAA
- The instrument used for "the Good" is the soprano flute
- The instrument used for "the Bad" is the arghilofono, a flute-like instrument made from terra cotta
- The instrument used for "the Ugly" is a human voice imitating the sound of a coyote

Absolute perfection
Wow! What an improvement on the standard soundtrack CD! This one contains every single glorious note that appears in the film, skilfully remastered to perfection. This now has to be, without any doubt, the greatest soundtrack currently available. Morricone uses at least 4 themes in this one soundtrack which could easily have stood alone as main themes to other films, such is the quality of the master's work at its peak. Whether you know the film inside-out or have never seen it, this CD will still send shivers down your spine when you listen to it for the 50th time (which, if you are like me, will be 3 days after you bought it). Nice packaging too! Don't take my word for it, just buy it now!
