大学生キョヌは、電車内で酔っぱらいの美女を介抱する。翌日、その彼女に呼び出されたキョヌだが、お礼を言われるどころか彼女の横暴な言動や態度にびっくり。しかし、名前も明かさない彼女の心になにか悩みがあると気づいた彼は、言われるがままに付き合おうと決心する。
韓国で、インターネットの掲示板に載ったエピソードを基に映画化されたというユニークな一作。レストランのメニューを指示されるなんてのは序の口で、気に入らなければ殴る、川に突き落とすなど「彼女」の行動は極端だが、正義漢の一面もあり、見ていて妙にすがすがしい。2人の恋の行方が笑いを誘いながら、後半は意外な感動ストーリーへなだれこむのも本作の魅力。主演2人もチャーミングで、男、女、それぞれの立場に隠された恋愛願望が引き出され、胸にズキッとくる。（斉藤博昭）

私は32歳の男性で、20歳の頃からこの映画が好きです。チョン・ジヒョンの自然な可愛さと、彼女の驚くべき猟奇性、M男心をくすぐる展開に魅了されました。

最近では、「あざとい系女子」と呼ばれる男性を惹きつける女性像が注目されていますが、個人的にはこの映画のような「猟奇系女子」の方が何倍も男性を引き込む力があると考えています。そのような女性に巡り会うと、男性の人生は思いも寄らない方向に翻弄されることでしょう。

しかしそれは、決して男性にとって不幸なことではなく、むしろ生きる喜びや意味を見出す素晴らしい体験だと思います。この映画を通じて、私は女性に対して尊敬の気持ちを持てるようになりました。

久しぶりに観ました。
公開当時、映画館で観て最後号泣し、その後もDVDを購入して
何度観ても号泣でした。
初めて観たとき、長く付き合った彼と別れ、なかなか忘れらなかった
時期だったから余計にこの結末に泣かされました。
あれから22年くらい？さすがに号泣はしなかたけど、やはりいい映画でした。

昔知り合いがこれ見て大笑いしていたのを思い出し、
それからずいぶんたってから試しに観てみたらそれなりに楽しめました。
知り合いみたいに大笑いはしなかったけれど。
途中で何度も飽きて一気に観ることはできなかったけれど
4回に分けてなんとか見終わりました。2時間はさすがに長いかな。
冒頭の流れでこれは、と思ったら、最後やっぱりそれだった。

慎重に脚本が作られていて流れが自然なのでラストがとてもよく感じられた。
途中でもたくさん笑ったし温かい気持ちになった。

「彼女」は猟奇的で奔放だけど真っ直ぐな心の持ち主で、
相反するような二つの側面を持っているところに自分を重ねたし、
「彼女」が自分自身を信じて包み隠さず話したり行動したりする姿にあこがれた。

主人公のキョヌがぐうたら大学生で情けないんだけど、
「彼女」の心の傷を癒してあげたいなんて思ってしまう姿にも自分を重ねた。

自分なら気持ちを抑え込んで終わってしまうだろうけど、
映画の中でキョヌは（弱くもあるけど）その優しい性格を存分に発揮して
一緒に過ごしながら、本当に「彼女」の心を癒してしまうから、
見ていて嬉しかったというか、何と言ったらいいのか分からない。

面白かったので、また観るだろう。

First a word on editions: the longest, "director's" cut of this film runs approximately 137 minutes, and that's the version I purchased through this site, manufactured by Bonzai Media Corporation - apparently unavailable at the moment - though my Amazon Verified Purchase shows the PRP version. I've only seen the DC and not the shorter version; it's hard to ascertain which is which with this title given that there are American, Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean DVDs available and not all of them have adequate details listed. So look carefully at all the options - which may change frequently.

The story:

A somewhat geeky engineering student, Gyeon-woo (Cha Tae-hyun) encounters a drunk and obnoxious, never-named girl (Jun Ji-hyun) on a commuter train and through his combined feelings of responsibility, passivity, and (surprisingly low-key) lust ends up becoming her savior, protector, and eventually a sort of boyfriend. She remains dominant and domineering, rude, and thoughtless through much of the film, though even early on it rarely seems that she's outright cruel - just immature and perhaps somewhat spoiled (confirmed when we find out that her family is clearly wealthier and of a higher class than Gyeon-woo's clearly middle-class roots). Will she ever treat him right? Will he grow a spine? This is the stuff of every romantic comedy ever.

But "My Sassy Girl" is not every romantic comedy ever. The spectacular performances from the two leads, a remarkable sense of pacing (despite the film running almost 2 1/2 hours there's not a moment where it lags), and the consistent inventiveness of director/coscreenwriter Kwak in taking us all over the map emotionally (and all over the map from urban to suburban to countryside and back again) give us in the end two of the most memorable characters in a "chick flick" that I've ever seen. I've seen quite a few Korean films but this probably makes the best use of Seoul as a location in my viewing experience, and in fact it's one of the best "city films" I've seen, with a real feel for the milieu - subways, restaurants, natural areas, a couple of quite distinctive residential neighborhoods, and an amusement park, among other places. And there are all the fantasy sequences that the would be writer "girl" dreams up, which take us to a whole other range of places.

While the wonderful range of locations and dream-fantasies adds vibrancy to the film, this is at heart the story of any couple of young people struggling with maturity, with the palette of emotions and situations here is much broader, and the storyline meanders in much more unusual directions than most. If you're impatient, or require more "realism" or more conventionally likable characters, you may not be enthralled as I was; and if you've not encountered the Korean penchant for melodrama, which intrudes at various points in the narrative and largely takes over in it's last quarter...well, don't say I didn't warn you.

So I warned you. But this is my review, and so I'll end it by saying: likely the best romantic comedy of the past 25 years.

I believe when this film was released it was the highest grossing Korean film ever and I can see why. It is a curious romantic comedy with some slightly surreal and completely over the top moments. It is charming and the characters come across so well - she definitely is sassy but you see what lies behind the way she acts as the film progresses...I can't think of too many films that can make you laugh and cry, sometimes simultaneously. It is based on a real life blog of a Korean guy and his girlfriend and follows their trials and tribulations. Definitely recommended, and forget about the poor US remake....

Ich war bislang wenig angetan von amerikanischen Holywoodfilmen ,die eine Mischung aus Komödie und Liebesfilm beinhalten.Viel zu klischeehaft und vorausschauend für meinen Geschmack-und dann wurde mir dieser Film empfohlen.Da ich südkoreanische Filme ,die gute Kritiken bekommen auch sehr schätze ,habe ich diesen Film blind gekauft.Und fühlte mich darin bestätigt ,eine gute Wahl getroffen zu haben.Denn dieser Film ist nicht irgendein kurzweiliger Film ,den man nur für ein DVD Abend mal reinsteckt und ihn wieder vergisst.Dieser Film ist ein Meisterwerk,die bislang beste Liebeskomödie ,die ich bisher gesehen habe.
Manche mögen behaupten,er komme mit einer lediglich simplen Story aus.Aber dieser Film beruht auf einer wahren Begebenheit ,den der Autor eines Internettagebuchs veröffentlicht hat.Und gerade das macht den Film so besonders .
Der Film hat eine Dauer von fast 140 Minuten und ich muss zugeben ,dass der Film in keiner einzigen Szene langweilig war.Man wartet gespannt auf die nächsten Szenen ,die mit viel Witz und einfallsreichen Einfällen gestaltet sind.Die Schauspieler sind großartig und liefern eine meisterhafte Schauspielerleistung ab.Die Musik wurde passend gewählt,teilweise werden amerikanische Klischeeszenen ironischerweise parodiert .Aber was letztlich zu sehen ist ,ist ein unterhaltsamer Film mit viel Witz ,Charme und Schauspielern ,die Spaß an ihren Szenen hatten.
Der Film war einer der erfolgreichsten Filme in Südkorea und erlangte auch international recht schnell Bekanntheit-und das zu Recht.Vom amerikanischen Remake ist abzuraten!
