ディー・ディー・ブリッジウォーターは、すでに評価の高いジャズシンガーですが、
このアルバムではアフリカ、マリのミュージシャンと共演して新境地を開いています。

私はワールドミュージックはそんなに得意なほうではないのですが、
このアルバムはほどよくジャズとアフリカの音楽が融合しており
大変楽しめました。

コルトレーンの演奏でよく知られている「アフロ・ブルー」が一曲目ですが、
彼女の代表曲（74年のデビューアルバムに収録）でもあり、
それを新たな解釈で歌っていて大変興味深いです。
アビー・リンカーンやダイアン・リーヴス、リズ・ライトの
バージョンと聞き比べても楽しいです。

07年グラミー賞ノミネートもうなずける力作だと思います。

以前に聴いたBad for Meは何だったの？というぐらい。

真っ当なジャズで聴く彼女の声が好きなのか。
少し民族風味のある音色での彼女の声色がどうにも、琴線に触れる。

dvdはマニアックな内容で、ほとんどdee deeの旅行記。
見ても余り意味はない。
アフリカでのライブの様子は若干入っているが、マニアック。

I see lots of folks complaining that she is a jazz artist and also incorporating music from her Ancestral home of Mali. This is what entertainers of African descent go through. What is an artist but one who relects what inside one's soul? As an artist myself, I'm aware we do not create for the masses, we create for our own souls. Any other expectation is uncharacteristic of fandom of any artist.

When speaking of delivering one's soul, Dee Dee struck all the high notes with this one. Red Earth speaks to a journey that can only be experienced inside one's inner knowing. The music is rich, reflective of Malian sound infused with Memphis American soul. That is what an African-American is one who represents both places. People should understand that when they criticize an artist for literally embodying themselves. This is Dee Dee Bridgewater, a rare African-American vocal treasure. I keep this cd in a special place so it won't be damaged. Absolutely worth the purchase!

Innanzi tutto è registrato abbastanza bene cosa che non guasta con gli impianti di oggi sempre piùà rivelatori. Questo disco della Bridgewater si discosta dal suo genere tradizionale, il jazz, abbracciando anche la etno. Convincente e ricco di spunti.

c'est l'album de dee dee bridgewater que je préfère. pourtant, il est un peu à part dans sa discographie et d'habitude je ne cours pas particulièrement après la musique africaine. mais peu importe le style quand la musique est belle ... la réussite de ce cd tient beaucoup à son équilibre : entre le jazz et la musique traditionnelle bien sûr, mais aussi entre le chant de dee dee et celui de ses invités qui sont tout sauf des faire-valoir. bel exploit quand on connaît un peu l'artiste et son exubérance ! cette humilité révèle une sincérité qui ne peut laisser indifférent.
