Here's a top-notch recording of some of the best songs of Mel Torme ! "Isn't It Romantic", What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life", Isn't It a Pity"(obscure Gershwin tune), and others make this a GREAT CD to sit & relax to...Mel Torme can really sing those ballads like none other...and his orchestrations on these songs is minimal (no "smoke & mirrors"), so there's nothing to get in the way of his incredible vocal & keyboard talent. The upbeat songs are fine, too, but I highly recommend this one to anyone who wants to pour a cocktail, sit back & relax & enjoy some of the finer tunes of the "great American songbook". Five stars all the way !!

Wonderful CD. My music taste is, I think, truly wide and Torme is right up there as a singer with the best. Lovely recording, he could be in the room with you and such a wonderful light but very distinctive voice. Recorded late in his career and, strange but true, he was once the son-in-law of Thora Hird but the CD is recommended nonetheless, and his take on Billy Joel's New York State of Mind is just one of many highlights.

Worth the price of admission just for the "Autumn Leaves" version a Scat-Fest, great stuff if you like such offerings, and I love it, and recommend it. The rest of the album is all prime Mel Torme.
