Ernest Gold's musical creation for Otto Preminger's "Exodus" in 1960 has to be one of the greatest compositions in film music and ranks among the best. This CD is original soundtrack and whenever played it still conjures vibrant images of Leon Uris' epic story of the struggle of the early Israelis seeking a home and peace in the Middle East. Whenever I am involved in creative writing I use Gold's "Exodus" music. It is one of those compositions that inspires and triggers deep feelings. For me, it is also very personal. I was a young reporter/photographer in Nicosia when Preminger was filming the Cyprus segment there, as I mention in my autobiography "Kings, Killers and Kinks in the Cosmos." It was also playing when I wrote the original text for my historical novel "Pentadaktylos." Wherever you are in the Cosmos Ernest, my thanks. PentadaktylosKINGS, KILLERS AND KINKS IN THE COSMOS

Ernest Gold wurde 1921 als Ernst Goldner in Wien geboren und floh 1938 mit seiner Familie vor den Nationalsozialisten nach New York. Bald nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges zog er nach Los Angeles und begann seine Komponistenkarriere mit Musik für Western. Im Laufe seiner Karriere gewann er alle wichtigen amerikanischen Musikpreise: Golden Globe, Grammy und Oscar.

"Theme of Exodus" als Opener dieses Filmsscores von 1960 ist eines der bewegensten Musikstücke, die jemals geschrieben und gespielt worden sind. Doch der gesamte Soundtrack des Monumentalfilms "Exodus" macht in sich Sinn und ist angefüllt mit großen Augenblicken. "Fight for Peace", das wunderbare Schlussthema, basiert wie einige andere auf dem erwähnten "Theme From Exodus", dessen Entstehung von einer übernatürlichen Kraft inspiriert gewesen sein muss und so unfassbar schön ist, dass es fast weh tut.

Insgesamt grandios und absolut zeitlos.

I love these themes and they remind me of the film scenes. The film is not at all about "ethnic cleaning". The jews lived in Israel many thousand years ago and they lawfully got their land back. We still see today - there are 1 million arabs living in Israel but how many jews do you find in Arab countries ??? And why is it that the palestinan-arabs do not want any jews to settle in "their" areas?

I would strongly recommend the book Exodus and other books by Leon Uris as well.
