Quite frankly one of Rit's best recordings. His playing and writing are very good and the supporting rhythm section of Gadd and Laboriel are on fire. I could live without the airplay cut of Sayer's "You make me feel like dancing", but the remainder is really good.
Albums like this are what made me a die-hard Ritenour fan. This is Ritenour as a fusion maverick, before his smooth jazz days. The man had harnessed fire in his fingers. Features of this album: tasteful distortion - Feel The Night, Wicked Wine, French Roast tender acoustic melody - Midnight Lady funky version of a pop classic - You Make Me Feel Like Dancing tasteful solos with a "clean" sound - Uh Oh!, Market Place Steve Gadd ( drums ) and Abraham Laboriel ( bass ) : wonderful ! This album made such an impression on me that I went out and bought a Gibson 335 ( like Lee's ) and started paying $120 a month for lessons. That was a lot of money in 1980 !
