前から気にしてましたが情報がなくモヤモヤしてた時youtubeで聴いて、これだ‼自分の好きなカーペンターサウンドだ‼と確信して購入しました。人によってはどれも変わらないと思われるでしょうが大好きな者にはたまらないのです。「ザ・ウォード」がいまいちの出来だったのはやはり彼自身が音楽を担当していなかったからだと改めて思いました。まだ購入を迷っている方へオススメします。

ジョン・カーペンターの映画にとって音楽（スコア）は切り離せない、一体化したものと思います。それは“有名”がどうかとかいうのとは違う次元で。ライナーノーツでは「ジョーズ」や「サイコ」における音楽との比較にちょっと触れています。そう、いずれもインパクトの強さ、一度聴いたら忘れない、という点では同じですが、ジョンの音楽は、どこか違う何かがあります。音楽として堪能できる魅力と個性がある一方で、彼の映画にとって“唯一無二的”存在感もある。その魅力は、いったんはまったらゼッタイ離れられませんよね。

そんなジョンの、67歳にして初のソロ・アルバム。音色もフレーズもあちこちに懐かしさがいっぱいなのですが、決して“焼き直し”ではない。そして今という時代にズレを感じさせない仕上げ方になっています。ジョンは映画作りでの煩雑さ、気苦労などから解放されて音楽に集中できるせいか、十八番のダークな香りの中に結構自己主張をしており元気にはりきっている印象を受けます。聴くものにはそれはウレシイ想定外。全曲インスト、ジョンらしい端正な曲作りはしていますが、展開やエンディング等に意外性があるので、予定調和的な退屈さはぜんぜんありません。

ＬＰレコードを意識してつくったのか、A面として4曲、B面が5曲とクレジットされています。昔気質のアーティストが作ったようでほほえましい。BGMにするのはもったいない、意欲的な作品です。

ニューヨーク１９９７、クリスティーンなどの作品を彷彿とさせる
一度は聞いたことがあるような・・・あのメロディー
個性的なシンセサイザーサウンドが響きわたる
ジョン・カーペンターという作曲家が作った原石のような作品
ファン必聴の究極アルバム！
ゲーム音楽好きの方に是非おすすめしたいと思います。
個人的には『ゴーストハンターズ』の時のようにボーカルものが
入っていたら五つ星でしたが・・・
ジョン・カーペンターの次回作に期待したい

カーペンターの映画は全て大好きなのですが、彼の作る楽曲はどれも本当に素晴らしいです。映画は「ウォード」を最後にメガホンを取られていない様ですが、曲作りに関してはいまだ現役バリバリで、御大のとどまることのないクリエイティブ才能に感服する次第です。アルバムの曲は全て捨て曲なしでどの曲も素晴らしく、これらの曲が銀幕で流れない事は本当に勿体無いと思います。カーペンター先生には、是非もう一度映画を作って頂き、これらの曲をフィルムの上で流して頂きたいと思います。

Cet album est juste super. On retrouve toute l'ambiance des films de John Carpenter. La composition musicale, les synthés sont maitrisés à la perfection. Juste sublime. Si vous aimez les films de John Carpenter, vous allez adoré cet album qui dégage une ambiance noire, mystique et très travaillée. Je suis ravi. Je recommande cet album.

As I sit here listening to John Carpenter's debut non-soundtrack album Lost Themes on this dark, dreary and snowy New England day, I look out of my window and feel a chill as Carpenter's trademark synths pour out of my speakers. It's as if he is playing along to the cold, isolated vantage point to which I sit.

Alas, Carpenter isn't playing along to any particular image this time around, as he has finally earned the freeing experience of simply playing music for his own vision and entertainment. Recorded with the help of Carpenter's son and grandson, Lost Themes has that old familiar sound that we've all come to love and expect from the master of horror, but it's filled to the brim with an abundance of heart and soul. Not that his previous soundtracks lacked that in any way, but this particular journey can be enjoyed along with him, as listeners can easily lose themselves in the array of hypnotic synths, strings and bass lines.

Opening with "Vortex", you immediately feel as though Christine is chasing you down, yet the track takes aim at your senses and does well to carry you away into a completely different world away from the classic 1983 film. "Obsidian" is very much reminiscent of In The Mouth of Madness, "Fallen" much like The Fog and "Mystery" maintains a Prince of Darkness tone. But I'm going to dispense with the comparisons of Carpenter's classic soundtracks. That would hardly be fair to a man of his talent and stature. If you've been a fan of the director's films and soundtracks, you'll most certainly enjoy this dynamic ominous batch of new material. Whatever emotion it evokes, it will be a soundtrack to your own story; no one else's on the big screen.

¿Quién me iba a decir que iba a disfrutar tanto un disco de John Carpenter a estas alturas? Además, hay que recalcar que no se trata de una banda sonora, sino de temas que posiblemente iban a formar parte de alguna película y que se descartaron. Tengo la teoría que el bueno de John, después de descalabrarse con dos películas entre lo malo y lo sonrojante ("Pro-vida" y "The Ward") decidió dejar de hacer películas y ponerse con la música. El resultado es espectacular: tiene el sabor analógico de sus bandas sonoras de siempre pero con un toque moderno que puede enganchar a nuevos seguidores. Tan crepuscular y misterioso como su portada, es un disco que como fan de Carpenter, las BSO o los teclados y sintes no te puedes perder. Una obra maestra.
