■ストーリー
90年代を席巻した、ハリウッドが誇る最強のアクション・スター。ジョン・ウーをハリウッドに招き、アクション映画の革命を起こした男。しかし、21世紀、そのスタイルは既に時代遅れ、ビデオストレート作品が続いてギャラは急降下。復活を期した作品は主演をセガールに奪われ、最愛の娘にも嫌われ、銀行口座は底をつく、挙句の果てに、たまたま立ち寄った地元の郵便局で強盗犯に誤認されてしまう・・・。

「その男ヴァン･ダム」（原題／ＪＣＶＤ）をDVDで初めて観ました。
正直、アクションスターとしてファンの期待を裏切り続けてきたバンダムが
もうまともな映画に出る事はないだろうと見捨てていた訳ですが、本作は
バンダム最高傑作であるジョン・ウー監督作品「ハード･ターゲット」（'93）や
フランスを舞台にしたリンゴ・ラム監督作品「マキシマム･リスク」（'96）にも
引けをとらない完成度の映画でした。女性にもオススメです。

一本のフランス映画（カラー作品ですよ）としてもかなり見応えがあり、
筋肉自慢や開脚キックといったバンダム映画のお約束も踏まえつつ
彼の真実の姿に迫る人間ドラマとしての切り口が新鮮で、決して単なる
お馬鹿コメディーではない。確実に彼の代表作として後世に残るだろう。
僕はこのDVDを買って正解だったと思っています。

メイキングを観て、どうしてバンダムが落ちぶれていったのか、
その謎がようやく解けた気がした。彼はかなり神経質で気難しく、
演技が上手くいかないとキレて現場から逃げてしまうのです。
あれではハリウッド大作の仕事は危なっかしくて任せられない。
マブルク・エル・メクリ監督はそんなバンダムの短所を理解し、
彼の内面に入り込んで長所を全て引き出した。

残念なのは、バンダムが本作のプロモーション活動を放棄してしまった事。
その理由はペットの犬の看病というウワサだが、予定通り来日して
バンダム復活をアピールすればかなりヒットした筈なのに勿体ない話だ。
スタローンからの出演依頼も断わってしまい、相変わらずのKYっぷり・・・
バンダムはどこへ行く？　ジャン＝クロード！

日本公開時に期待しないで観たら、意外な良さにビックリ、
また観てみたくてDVDを買いました。

あのヴァンダムが“ダメヴァンダム”を演じて、
元キャラのエネルギッシュな芸風に対して、本作品では見事な枯れっぷり。

監督の力量もすごいが、こんな自虐作品への出演を承諾したヴァンダムに感服。

B級かと思いきやストーリー展開はしっかりしていて、
グイッと引き込むテンポ＆伏線の張り方＆オチで、
ダメキャラ映画なのに、鑑賞後は元気がわいて気分よくなれます。

既にスターとして第一線から離されてしまった感のあったヴァン・ダム。
彼がセルフプロデュースして作りあげられた本作は往年の彼を知るファンであれば必ずニヤニヤしながら、観ることが出来るでしょう。
ひたすら哀愁を漂わせるヴァン・ダム。毎回無意味に肉体をさらし、無意味なベッドシーンを要望していた彼ではありません。
それでいて冒頭のアクションでは、まだそれなりに身体が動くことを証明してくれたのはさすがです。ただ劇中ではワンカットという設定らしいですが、よく観ると編集でつながれてました。
ラストシーンは感動しますよ。

昔「ドリフの大爆笑」というフジテレビの番組で「もしも・・・だったら」なる人気コーナーがあった。「もし乱暴な医者だったら・・」とか「もし涙もろい医者だったら・・」とかを、志村けんや加藤茶が痛快に演じるのだが、本当に面白かった。そもそも映画やドラマは「脚本」がある以上、全てが「シチュエーション」なのだけれど、ありえない事象を面白く表現するのがドリフターズ版だった。本作を観て、まず思い出したのがドリフだった、と（笑）。「ヴァン・ダムが強盗だったら・・」というこの設定は興味深かった。でも、予告にあるような「落ちぶれたスター」というイメージは無理やりくっつけた感じで、別にトップスターのヴァン・ダムでもよい脚本だった。もっとハリウッドの内幕も暴露した作風だと思っていたので、周辺の状況をセリフで語るだけでは説得力に欠けた。だって最初のアクションシーンも結構カッコよかったし、あのアジア人監督の態度だけで「落ちぶれ感」を醸し出すのもムリがある。まあ、アメリカ映画じゃないので（配給は仏・ゴーモン）そう露骨に描けなかったのかもしれないが。普段、Ｂ級ＤＶＤスルー作品の制作援助をしているソニーピクチャーズと組んで、もっと派手にやってほしかったなあ。メイキングもゴーモンっぽい作りです（笑）。星３つ。

プレデターの中に入っていたスタントマン（お蔵入りになったけど）。
かつて欧州で活躍した強豪空手家。
大ブレイクしたアクションスター。
しかし歳とともに衰え、昔のスターとなった人。

その彼が実名で演じることで、これだけのキャラクターが最低限の説明で説得力を持つのはおみごと。
「やればできるはずだ！いつやるんだ？」とワクワクしながら観ていましたが、「そうはうまくいかないよな」というある意味裏切られた落とし所が実に‘作中のジャン＝クロード’として良い感じでした。

　落ち目のスターのジャン＝クロード・ヴァン・ダムは故郷ベルギーに帰ってくる。たまたま入った郵便局には強盗が。人質の一人となったヴァン・ダムだが、外には犯人と思われてしまい。。。

　ドタバタしたコメディでなく、自虐ネタなどを散りばめた落ち着いた感じのコメディ。
　ただコメディなだけでなくて、落ち目のヴァン・ダムが奮い立つ姿が感動を呼ぶ。だからといってすっごいハッピーエンドになるわけじゃないのだけれど、そこがまた味わい深い。
　調べたらヴァン・ダムって本当に五回も離婚してるのね。よくこんな映画つくろうって思ったし、出るヴァン・ダムもすごいよなぁ。その心意気にプラス1点。

Fans of kung-fu flicks and "bad movies" rejoice! JCVD makes a movie about JCVD, called "JCVD". It's a legitimately good movie. Not "good" like passable, but actually good. Easily his best film to date. And I don't mean "best" as in my favorite Van Damme film is "The Quest", I mean good as in this should have won people over at Cannes.

The opening: There's explosions everywhere, JCVD is spin-kicking muscle-headed soldiers into oblivion. Bodies pile up left and right, and then Jean-Claude proceeds to... walk off the set and discuss the scene with the director? The fourth wall will be broken.

The plot: I'd have to say the plot is a true metaphor such that revealing anything is a semi-spoiler. Trying not to ruin the fun too much, the whole point of the film is that JCVD believes he has been misunderstood- as an actor and as a person- so when the movie reveals that a weary-sounding JCVD is robbing a post office, you sense there's more to the story. So much more.

So why should you watch it? JCVD (and company) are telling a very direct and personal story to the audience using film as a medium- this is high art. The "climax" of the movie is really when JCVD is raised above the set to deliver an impassioned monologue directly to the camera, with the stage lights and equipment clearly visible behind him. Eyes full of tears, apologizing for his mistakes but full of hope and pride over his accomplishments, he pours his soul out to the world openly and without reservation. Then, at the end, he is lowered back into the scene and rolls right back into the script without breaking the one-shot. This must be seen.

Fans of JCVD and kung-fu movies in general will get lots of what they want, from over-the-top action scenes to quips about Steven Seagal. People who've stared and wondered all this time at who this guy is or why he keeps making bad movies, will get the explanation they've been looking for (and it's not a clearcut as they expect). Movie fans in general, this is just a well-made movie. Highly recommended, to anyone old enough to watch an action movie and who doesn't mind French with subtitles.

Also of note, do watch the bonus deleted scenes. There's just a few cuts there, but they demonstrate that a good portion of the movie was done in the long single-shots that open the film and including much ad-libbing from JCVD. These elements add a lot of difficulty to an action movie (and that's not just a jab at Van Damme). To think that the movie was shot in this style, with such a personal and intricate plot, really goes to show the heart that went into this film. An all-time classic, JCVD should be a staple of fight films and arthouse together. This movie says more about the man, than any biopic ever will.

Ho appena visto questo film, è il riscatto di Jean-Claude Van Damme! Grande prova di Attore maturo, questa volta senza tanti fronzoli, calci volanti e spaccate, questa volta è lui, come se facesse una confessione al pubblico che lo segue e lo ama da tanti anni. Questo film, girato come fosse un documentario, lascerà a bocca aperta molte persone e probabilmente in un paio di punti vi farà commuovere (almeno con me lo ha fatto). CONSIGLIATO A TUTTI ! Grazie all'amico RONX che me lo ha consigliato.

I've seen actors getting Oscars for worst performances than the one Van Damme gives here.
JCVD is an unbelievable and unique movie exactely because no one was expecting to see something like this from a man who the world has not been respecting as an actor for decades now.
For my part, i'm never going to snob Van Damme ever again when it comes to acting.
It's very difficult to explain this here, because, really, there are no words to describe the work of Van Damme in this movie that could give you an idea of how good he is in portraing this JCVD character.
Ok, it's based on his own life, you say. So it doesn't count as good acting. WRONG.
Once again, if you've never seen a Van Damme movie in your life, or you were not planning to see more of his work ever again, i would reconsider and check this movie out.

Van Damme performance is trully special, and you finish this movie really caring for that person.
The premise of the movie is great; a beat up has-been action star, bankrupt and with tons of personal problems goes back to his country and then one day when he goes to cash a check he ends up being the more valuable hostage when the robbers recognize him as the Van Damme of such movies like Bloodsport and insist on him to act like he does in the movies but in real life.

Strangely enough, altough the movie delivers some great jokes and laugh moments, it's not exactely a comedy, but a very intimistic movie about a man who once was a big hollywood star but despite of that never was taken serious as an actor.
Well, after you see JCVD you will. And I sicerely hope JCVD is going to be an open door for a new movie carreer for Van Damme because this performance is simply fascinating.

If you're expecting an action movie, don't see this, it's not a martial arts movie, it's not Bloodsport 5 but instead is a brilliant suspance little european movie with a star that nobody ever thought possible to give such a great performance.
Great, secondary characters, great settings, excelent direction and style and a brilliant Van Damme like you never thought possible.
If you love movies, this is a must own DVD.

oH, and the DVD is great. Two discs with excelent documentaries. The making of is fantastic and you'll be amazed at the fragility of Van Damme when it came to actualy believing in himself while filming JCVD. Once again, hard to describe. The making of ends being almost as good as the movie and a trully must see after the film to better grasp the motivation that made Van Damme create such a memorable movie character and brilliant unexpected performance.

Buy it.
