simply amazing guide book even if you can't read japanese~
2013年4月12日にアメリカ合衆国でレビュー済みAmazonで購入
i just got my complete catalog from japan today.
after a bit of a semi-thorough look (i can't say thorough because i refuse to look through the catalog part of the book extensively, because i don't want to spoil myself that much yet~) i can say that if you personally believe you are an intuitive person who can take intuitive leaps and you're really worried about prima guide's (the only english guide on preorder right now...) mistakes like i was, this guide, while japanese, is almost self-explanatory (except for some parts... but hear me out)
i don't know what people are looking for when it comes to mistakes and all that, but the catalog, from what i've seen, is accurate as far as i can tell. the only real complaint that i've seen and can confirm is the fake painting pictures are like, no kidding, waaaay too tiny to use as a reference~ most japanese reviews have said this on amazon japan's site (google translate yay) and they weren't kidding
but prices are outlined by pictures (you see the pink alpaca for r parker's and the nookling for the nookling store~) so you don't need to know a word (or character~) of japanese to understand that. and everything buyable and sellable has a picture. you can also see if something can be recoloured by the blue alpaca really easy by little coloured dots~
but if you are worried about text... there is a BUNCH (a butt load!) of text, which is standard for japanese sites or books, that's going to be a hurdle to translate. over half the guide is catalog tho, and the rest is stuff that was already in animal crossing mostly, like flower hybrids~ it also, of course, has the buying price above the selling prices.
i love it. but i also wanted a guide to WRITE on and in, because i was planning to do that no matter the guide (for corrections or translation) so i got it for a PERSONAL pleasure. it WILL take a bit of an intuitive leap... but it's not that bad, i promise~
that's just for those who are willing to pay about $10 more than the prima guide and wait a bit longer for the guide to come to your house (it took 2 weeks to ship through SAL shipping on amazon for me tho... but the estimated shipping was a month or two, so be wary of that~) and you don't mind a language barrier, then i would totally recommend the complete catalog and especially for any of those here who are interested in trying to teach themselves japanese, like me. but if you can't take an intuitive leap and you're not at all interested in opening google translate at least, i don't know if i could recommend it...
but don't be at all shocked when it comes in and it's only a bit wider than the prima guide is slated to be~ i was, because it looks HUGE in pictures online. it's actually 640 pages, but when you look at hte cover, it's a lot thinner and a bit shorter than a 'standard' guide book size. but they glued that binding in to where you know they weren't kidding around. i expect it to hold up for a long time. the pages are lightweight but thick (they're not glossy) and feel like they won't be torn so easily. they also filled every page with text and pictures... no space is just left for a title page or anything. and if you're worried about navigation..? each page has a side panel with a picture in colour (like a little shirt or gyroid or whatever section) and the rest are faded. just flip through the sections until you find the category you're looking for, like an encyclopedia or dictionary~
nintendo dream outdid themselves. there is so much colour and pictures that even a foreigner with no japanese experience can understand the guide! i wish there was a guide maker here in the usa that would be so kind to make thorough guides like this one, but alas, this is why i bought a japanese guide over an american one. don't be scared of the amount of text... there's a lot, yes, but the important things are very self-explanatory if you're willing to put the pieces together. i love my tobidase doubutsu no mori complete catalog, i would recommend it to anyone who wants an error-free guide for prices and pictures of EVERY item in the game. nintendo dream did not skimp out on anyone: children, adults, japanese, american, or anyone else!
definitely consider buying this, even if you plan on getting a prima guide. do not miss out on this guide!!

Yesterday the catalog arrived in the post. I was so happy. I opened the package immediately. I was debating for two whole days with the help my mum and a friend between getting this one or just getting the English one Animal Crossing New Leaf comes out next week on Sunday June 9th, 2013. I wanted a challenge yet I was very skeptical. Yet to my surprise my reading is better than I thought lol.
With the help of Random House's Japanese-English/English-Japanese dictionary for the words I don't know I will be translating each section. This is a very good catalog. I've looked at the events for this month as well as the neighbors. I just wish it had codes but I dunno if this animal crossing is like the gamecube one.
There are American Holidays listed :) so yah! Halloween lol K.K is now a DJ^^' On pages 8 and 9 there's help for getting a good looking avi. When I made two new towns, I would constantly reset my game until I had blue hair a good set of eyes on Animal Crossing (GC). I'm hoping Blanca is still in the game. I did nothing more than skim through because I do not want to ruin the game for myself. The items in comparison to the orginal Animal Crossing is amazing. It's more customizable than before. I mostly just want to swim in the game >.< I love swimming in games. If they make another animal crossing I hope they let us travel to just random town created by Nintendo :D
639 pages is worth your time and effort especially if you're trying to make sure you're still capable of understanding Japanese >.<

Amazing guide.

I use both American guide and Japanese guide together, as an example if I want to see what an animal looks like I check it's birth date on the English version and then flip through the Japanese version and can find them easily in the book. I cannot read Japanese (hirigana, Katakana, Kanji, etc. but using this guide has been very helpful with self explanatory images. The book is twice as large as the English guide also, with in depth description of everything you can think of for this game. The pages are comparable to manga paper. And it's full of color in each page. I know I can probably look all this information on the internet but I love books and prefer them.

Great Book even if you can't read Japanese

I love this book even though I can't even read Japanese. Its great just to look at and contains everything that you could ever want to know about Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The US probably will not be getting a guide as complete as this & looking at the pictures is lots fun. The paper is almost newspaper feeling, the inside is printed in all color. The outside cover is very nice. If you need something to look at while waiting for this game to release in the United States or Europe this is a really amazing book.

Amazing Guide!

I absolutely love this guide. It has so much information, way more than I ever expected, with a ton of pictures. I wish some of them were a littler bigger but hey I'm just glad to have pictures at all. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a HUGE comprehensive guide to Animal Crossing:New Leaf, but doesn't mind that it's all in Japanese.
