Craig Robson has visited South-East Asia many times in the past 25 years and has studied more bird species in the region than anyone else from Europe. He helped to launch the thriving Oriental Bird Club and served on the Council of the OBC for five years, writing numerous papers in its journal during that time. Craig is based in Norfolk, England.

掲載種の数、それぞれについて雌雄や亜成鳥イラストが多く掲載されているのは大きな評価ポイント。価格を考えると十二分な内容。フィールドガイドとしては大きすぎるのと分布図が無いのが欠点だと思う。掲載種数と価格を考えると五つ星で評価したい。個人的には「使えるフィールドガイド」です。

上手下手ガイドの典型

東南アジア地域1250種を含むフィールドガイド。これだけの種類がこの一冊に収まっていることそのものすごいと言える。ただ、フィールドガイドというには、重過ぎないか？地域固有種の多い東南アジアの図鑑なのに、分布図がないのはマイナス要素。イラストは一見綺麗だが、上手下手の典型図鑑。trogonやflycatcherを同じ輪郭で色を塗り分けているだけなのがまる分かり。それでも、この地域の図鑑を一冊持つならお勧め。

The book has a nice collection of birds for the region. However, compared to other Helm field guides, this one is larger in size and pretty heavy to carry on field or on trips.

les descriptions sont claires et complète. La présentation choisie pour ce livre permet aussi bien une approche rapide et approfondie de l'espèce recherchée.. Un système d'image dans les premières pages du livre aide à la recherche de l'oiseau à l'intérieur du livre. On va ensuite de la synthèse aux détails sur chaque oiseau. Ce livre est vraiment très ingénieux et très pratique. (en anglais).
