Glad、Double Trouble、Little Wing などを初め素晴らしい演奏ばかりですが、特にVooDoo Chileは白眉ではないかと思います。圧倒的なボーカル、頂点を極めた官能的なギター、天才的なキーボード、などによって、真に迫るような感動的な演奏が繰り広げられています。運命的な意志を表現したような独特な楽曲だと思いますが、この曲を改めてこんなに輝かせることができたのは、この二人なればこそ、という感じです。ほかの曲も名演ぞろいです。名盤中の名盤です。

てっきりブラインド・フェイスを再現しただけのナツメロ大会的なヤワな演奏をしているのかと思って今まで買わずにいたが今日聴いてビックリ。
クラプトンとスティーヴ・ウィンウッドが気合十分でマジで迫力ある演奏を繰り広げているのだ。
実際、メンバーを見てみても、ジンジャー・ベイカーもいなければリック・グレッチもいない。
ブラインド・フェイスではなのだ。
二人がお互いに好きな曲を持ち寄り、気に入ったバックを従え真剣勝負の演奏を繰り広げている。
確かにブラインド・フェイス時代もあるが、それは全21曲中5曲だけであり、他は個人のソロ作品であったり、ジミ・ヘンドリックスやロバート・ジョンソンなどの曲が並ぶ。
当時60歳を超えた二人の天才ミュージシャンの元気ハツラツな音が聴けるのが嬉しい。
クラプトンの数あるライブアルバムの中でもこんなにも熱の入ったギターを聴けるのは久しぶりだ。
間違いないライブアルバムの名盤だろう。

これは、よくある再結成物とか、有名アーティストのカップリングではない。二人のレジェンドががっぷり組んで名曲を演奏した世紀のライブだ。
"Presence of the Lord"はこの曲のベストテイクと言って良い圧巻の演奏。”Double Trouble”や”Voodoo Chile”ではブルースギタリスト、クラプトンの燃えるような演奏が聴ける。”Little Wing”では、亡きデュアンの魂とともに空をかけるような自由なクラプトンが聴ける。
ボーカルのハモリもパワフルで心に響いてくる。

「Live from Madison Square Garden 」は、クラプトンとウィンウッド共通の音楽ベースとも言えるブルースが堪能できる素晴らしいライブ・アルバムであった。Blind faithのアルバム「Blind Faith」から、「 Had to Cry Today」「Presence of the Lord」「Well All Right」「Can't Find My Way 」を中心に構成されている。「Presence of the Lord 」ではWinwoodの味のあるヴォーカルにより、この曲をさらにドラマティックにしている。アルバム「Blind Faith」に関しては昔も今も賛否はあるものの、ブルースを基調としたアレンジで現在に甦るとやはり良いのではと思う。クラプトンもウィンウッドも年輪を重ね、余裕もでてきたからこそ、これだけ楽しんでブルースを歌い演奏出来るものだと感心させられた。当たり前の話だが、クラプトンのギターも、ヴォーカル同様にやはり素晴らしいと改めて印象づけてくれてライブ作品であった。更には録音も良く、期待を決して裏切らない内容なので☆５つ。

　しかし皆さん天邪鬼と言うか、独断と偏見というか「自由」なレビューが多いですね。そんなに悪いのでしょうか？この音楽。クラプトンとウィンウッドの共演ですよ？４０年近く経って実現した夢の公演ですよ？素直に喜んだほうがいいのでは？

　僕はＤＶＤでは既に持っていました。非常に感激して観ました。昨年末に来日したコンサートも北海道の田舎から東京まで観に行って（１２/３）堪能しました。マニアックな当日のブートレグ音源も手にして聴きこんでしまいました。改めてこのＣＤを聴くと二人が非常に気合を入れて演奏していることが判りました。

　来日公演は場数を踏んできた影響もあって全てがリラックスした雰囲気の中で淡々と進行してしました。クラプトンは自分の歌は軽く流しており、ウィンウッドのサポートに重点を置いており、ギターソロも「お約束のフレーズ」を織り込んで全体的には纏まりのあるプレイでした。ウィンウッドはギターも歌も精一杯の演奏で感動的でした。

　このＣＤは来日公演を当然ながら上回る演奏を展開しています。メリハリの利いた各自のプレイに感じることなく、我儘な思い込みと違っただけで安易に批判をするだけのレビューはお止めいただきたい。場当たり的な印象で物事を判断するのでは無く、もっと時系列で彼等の活動を見て欲しいですね。

February 25-28, 2008 two giants hit the stage at MSG for a historic event by reuniting and playing together after nearly forty years… in my estimation, the magic is still alive, even palpable between these old friends. Opening with the classic Blind Faith track off the album from 1969, "Had to Cry Today," one can hear the "unfinished business" that Clapton mentions in his interview about their collaboration for these MSG shows. On this CD, "Presence of The Lord," is sung as a duet and if memory serves me right, on the album, Winwood did the vocals, with Clapton sticking to his strat. This duet however is quite moving especially when one considers all that Clapton has been through over the decades since Blind Faith. The emotion in Eric’s vocals testify to the demons he long fought and ultimately defeated. "Sleeping in The Ground," Buddy Holly's "Well All Right" and of course the classic "Can't Find My Way Home" rounds out the Blind Faith era... there's not one bad moment here tempting you to fast-forward, nor could there be in my opinion. Only disappointment is they didn’t find room for “Sea of Joy “one of the best from the Blind Faith catalogue!

If you watch any of these tunes on youtube, or cuts from the DVD, the comments and interview clips between the songs, along with the acknowledging nods and smiles, all illustrate the history that is shared by these two friends, and you can gain some insight into why they chose the songs they did for this concert. To see the continuity of Winwood switching between guitar, organ and piano, proves the skill and musicianship he’s been blessed with, and his signature vocals are still strong and dead on even after all these years. The interactions, chemistry and fun they seem to share together make this rare event even more stellar because these tunes are a major part of the history and soundtrack of our lives that will never be duplicated, nor can they be.

Another understated piece of musical mastery is the seemlessness in which Winwood fills out the vocal harmony on the Derek and The Domino’s classics, “Tell the Truth” and “Little Wing”. Never doubting his ability, it so on the mark, and takes up the same sonic space as the original, that you must remind yourself that it is Winwood, (and not Bobby Whitlock)! Stevie does it with such subtlety and ease, that it comes across as if he has done it forever, and that my friends is the mark of a real master, artist, vocalist!

I knew that SW could play several instruments, yet, I would not have realized that his guitar work, as highlighted on; "Dear Mr. Fantasy", “Had to Cry Today “,” Cocaine” and again on” Can’t Find My Way Home”, would solidify just how tasteful his fills and phrases are! Stevie’s astute guitar work also seems to have been a catalyst for EC to challenge himself and play more “in the moment”, which opens the door for some very dynamic interchanges between them!
EC is in a class by himself for many reasons that I won’t go into here, but in no way does he or has he ever tried to upstage anyone he’s ever shared the stage with, including here. As he’s gotten older, what he may lack in speed, he far more makes up for with note selection, and in his timing and phrasing, and the ever-present artistry and creativity to do it in the moment are all highlighted in his brilliant execution on Double Trouble, and Voodoo Chile! The tone he coaxes out of his Stratocaster’s single coils during the opening lines of Double Trouble, are so rudimentary and have such an edge, that they drip with the same emotional elements that only can be found in those legendary neighborhood clubs of the westside of Chicago back in the 50s. Both versions found on this CD of Double Trouble, and Voodoo Chile exemplify why EC is the benchmark and the only three-time inductee into the R and R Hall of Fame! Having said that, I can only add that Winwood’s Hammond B3 artistry is unsurpassed and the seamless organ /guitar interplay in” Little Wing, Split Decision and Voodoo Chile” is dramatic, emotional and something to behold … untouchable, in my opinion!

Ever present, in the pocket, Willie Weeks is a master on bass. The long time touring member of EC;s band, is a true journeyman who’s played with many greats from Aretha and Donny Hathaway ,to the Doobie Bros, Robert Cray ,and as a fixture in the backline for EC’s Crossroads Guitar Festivals. Willie never overplays but has a unique ability to play to the songs’ arrangement with both discipline and personality, while he executes his timing perfectly adding the anchor on the bottom end that is distinctively why the pocket exists in the first place. Ian Thomas on drums and Chris Stainton on keyboards, rounds out the rhythm section which consistently proves to be one of the most dependable rhythm sections available. Footnote, Chris Stainton’s piano solo near the end of “Cocaine” is just short of mystifying indeed, it even drew smiles from both Eric and Stevie!!
Last word; What I didn’t know, and was surprised to learn, was that Joe Walsh and Stevie co-wrote Split Decision. Knowing that now, I can hear Joe’s influence since in fact, it is his slide guitar work in the original. I can fully appreciate why it was added to the setlist here, coming from Winwood’s highly acclaimed, “Back in the High Life” album.
This CD has been on my radar for quite some time, and I should have moved on it earlier than I did… what a great performance we have here by two of the greatest to ever hit the stage! Timeless classics by two timeless classics, I hope you enjoy the talent and creativity of both Mr.’s Clapton and Winwood…

Se non vi basta il sound del grande "Slow Hand", riconoscibile per il gusto e la raffinatezza che da sempre distinguono il suo playing, qui lo trovate insieme ad uno straordinario Steve Winwood... forse uno dei migliori polistrumentisti al mondo* Ciò che ne esce è un'allegoria di forza Blues... miscelata ad una densa dose di potenza sonora (che sul palco non guasta mai!). Brani come "Low Down" o "Double Trouble"... per arrivare ad una trascendentale "Little Wing" (degno tributo alla leggenda nera di Seattle), per me... la più emozionante versione mai ascoltata dopo quella hendrixiana! L'atmosfera saprà trasportarvi nel tempio della grande musica come pochi altri dischi hanno, veramente, saputo fare*

Es una importante reunión de excelentes músicos de Blues & Rock, que desde hace 50 años aproximadamente, han aportado a tres generaciones una inigualable música digna de genios en este arte, motivo por el cual este concierto es histórico, dado que ambos talentos Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood ya andan por ahí de los 70 años y la vida ya no es la misma a esa edad, para realizar conciertos tras conciertos en tuors tan desgastantes que este tipo de gente realiza, porque también es importante, por que en el pasado ellos dejaron un gran proyecto inconcluso, el cual se denomino Blin Faith y que por diversas situaciones se trunco, la música de este concierto en CD, Vinil, DVD &Blue Ray, es de colección para todos aquellos que nos gusta y amamos este tipo, que en lo particular es la mejor durante tres generaciones que he vivido, lo recomiendo al 110%, anímense a adquirirlo y lo gozaran como nunca
