Raised by an entire village after he loses his family, he is passed from one family to the next every Christmas day. The English dub of the film has lip synch issues but truly, the quality of this production is so outstanding that this aspect is easily overlooked. The cinematography, sets and costumes are outstanding and suitable for the time. Santa's voice over makes this story a heart-felt retelling of a diary about a young man's life. This makes a nice addition to any family holiday collection. KIDS FIRST!® Child Juror Comments: "I would watch it over again, probably during the holiday season with my family. My friends would enjoy it as well. It is very believable. The story is very sad at the beginning: Nicholas' family went to take his younger sister to the doctor and never made it; they were lost and died in the snow and ice. Nicholas was left without a family and because not one family could take on the responsibility of raising a child, the entire village helped raise Nicholas. That was cool. I also liked the photography. It made me feel as if I was in the fishing village. I liked how Nicholas made toys for the other kids, even when he was a kid himself. It made me tear up, feel good and happy. I liked seeing a real reindeer." 78 min.; Ages 5-12.

本当の愛は忍耐の要る地味なモノ

私は昔から、日常会話で「愛」と言う言葉を簡単に使う人が嫌いです。外国映画で " I love you." なんて軽く使っているのを観るだけでムシズが走ります。

この作品は、本当の愛とは瞬間で終わってしまうモノではなく、忍耐を要する地味なモノである事を、雪国の過酷なシーンを多く使い、それを維持する困難さを象徴させて表現している優れモノです。

自分の周囲に幸せがある事を当然と思う人が多い中、それをもたらしてくれる人に感謝の念を持ち、その幾分かでも返したいと考える人達の溢れる社会があれば、そこは正に天国になります。つまり天国とは、誰かが与えてくれるモノではなく、自分が求め行動して初めて手に入るモノである事をこの作品は教えてくれています。

作品としては非常に地味ですが、とても好感が持てるモノです。

クリスマスに毎年観ています、サンタクロース誕生秘話、まるで絵本のような、可愛くて優しい感動作です。

謎に包まれていたサンタさんの人生、美しい優しさでサンタになる前の少年時代が描かれていて新鮮でした。
孤児になったニコラスを我が子同然に育ててくれた村人たちの優しさは、サンタの無償の愛の礎になってるんだ。

意地悪なイーサッキに引き取られて辛い思いをしたら嫌だなと思っていたら、実はいい人、感動しました。
イーサッキがこの映画のキーパーソン、彼がいなかったらサンタクロースは誕生していなかったんだから…。

語り継がれるかぎり、サンタクロースはいつまでも、子どもたちの心にいるんだ…。

日本劇場未公開の本作品、ＤＶＤとＢＤは販売されているようだがたまたまａｍａｚｏｎの解説で本作品を見つけ観たのだがとても心温まる作品だと思います。

サンタクロースの生まれ故郷であるとされるフィンランド製の映画、時代背景はよく判らないが19世紀位？と思われる。フィンランドの極寒の地のラップランドの小さな村で生まれたニコラス、両親と妹を事故で亡くし村のみんなに育てられる。その感謝の気持ちからクリスマスイブに手作りの玩具をプレゼントするようになる。そこから大人になり亡くなるまで伝説のサンタクロースになるまでのオリジナルストーリーである。
登場する人物はみんないい人ばかりです。特に最初はどう見ても悪人にしか見えなかった木工職人のイーサッキがニコラスの技量を見抜き彼を引き取ってからの変わりぶり。そして、最初に引き取られた家の子供のエーメリとの大人になってからの交流、エーメリが娘の名前をニコラスの亡くなった妹と同じアーダと名付けたこと、そしてそのアーダがニコラスがプレゼントを贈り続けていることを知っていてその後大人になりニコラスが亡くなるまでを支援していたこと、それらすべてが心温まるエピソードである。

映像もとても綺麗でラップランドの寒さ、森、雪、そしてこの村の生活ぶりが非常によく表現されていて丁寧に作られている。そして、ニコラスが少年から、大人、そして老人から亡くなるまでの純真無垢な心がよく出ていた。

上映時間も77分と短いので小学生の子供がいる家庭で是非、親子揃って見てほしい映画です。

大げさな損得や意地悪な話ばかりの中で、まあ、多少の？？？も「ラストの肩透かし」もありますが、多くの人が星5つをつける気持ちは分かる気がします。
村人全員がいい人で、孤児になった少年は大人たちに見守られ木工の腕を磨いて大人になる。
そのお話のどこがいけないのと、今思います。
クリスマスの前に、大人の垢を落として、こんなお話で暖まるのもいいかも。
星4つはサービス込み。

少し時季外れに見たけど見終われば心が満たされている素敵な作品。
感謝している人は沢山いるんだろなとか思うと人生を掛ける価値もあるんだろうな。
余りにも素敵過ぎて2回もぶっ通しで見てしまった。

子供と一緒に見ても夢を壊さない仕掛けになっていて、いい映画です。
ただ、エンディングのファンタジー色の強さはちょっとやりすぎかも。
プレゼントが変わらず届けられているってだけでいいのでは。

It's a story about a young boy who loses his parents in the ice and ends up being an apprentice to a local furniture maker who is a bit brash and rough. The boy starts making toys and ages in the old man's work shop. Won't ruin the story for you but is a joy to watch every year. This movie is in a foreign language and dubbed in English. It does a good job and you barely notice.

I have loved this movie at first sight and recommend it to anyone who believes in Santa. The story is so pure of love for family and friends. I have this one and sent it to my son. Sharing the wonderment of Santa and his beginnings and continuation is explained or shown here. You have to deal with the circle of life and the selflessness of one to bring joy to the young . Faith to those who need to believe in this mystery of how can HE? Just a lovely piece of real snow in this location.. Most use cotton stuff stratigicly placed. Yuck. Nice to see and lovely to share.

This is the wonderful story of a little boy that is left alone in the house one winter night because his parents had to take his baby sister Addah to the doctor in the village.Because of the blizzard his parents and baby sister lost their way and have drown in the lake near the village.
Because Nicholas (the little boy)did not have another relatives to raise him, the villagers took this responsability upon themselves but because they were very poor families they decided that each and every family in the village will take Nicholas for a year starting on Christmas Eve.
To thank them for their kindness Nicholas carved wooden toys and left these on their doorstep every Christmas Eve.He never forget to go to the lake where his little sister drowned and put in the water a toy for her as a Christmas present.
When the harvest was bad and the fish in the lake was not enough to feed the villagers and no one could afford to take him, a tinker man took him, taught him the secrets of wood carving and left him all his money, his house and workshop.
This is a wonderful story to warm your hearts, a story that will teach us and our children the true spirit of Christmas.
Highly recommended! Buy it for this is a true classic everyone should watch!
