ドン・フェルダー唯一のソロアルバム。
意外にもしっかり歌ってるし、シンセも多用するなど、イーグルスのイメージとはちょっと違う。
バラードの１曲くらい入っていても誰も文句は言わないと思うが、そこはひたすら自分のやりたい事をやっていて、
良くも悪くも洗練されていない泥臭いロックアルバムとなった。
ただ「5. Never Surrender 」は、ケニー・ロギンスの伸びやかなコーラスもあってキャッチーなナンバーに仕上がってるし、
８０年代のロックファンなら聴いて損なしと思う。
それにしても日本の正規版にも関わらず、訳詞はともかく、歌詞すら載せていない仕様にはガッカリ。

イーグルスから開放されて湿り気のない
ホットなAOR路線を狙ったアルバムです。
ギターもイーグルスよりもインプロヴァイズ
された物が多い印象を受けましたが
その分勢いやノリが増していて
彼の違う魅力が感じられます。
イーグルスのHotel Californiaの緻密なギターソロの
彼と考えてこのアルバムを聴くと
肩透かしを食らうと思います。

When I saw this was available for pre-order I immediately got it. Out of print for WAY too long, this is a fantastic 1983 album from the most underrated member of the Eagles. When I heard this album back in the day I never understood why he wasn't allowed to sing with the Eagles beyond one cut on ONE OF THESE NIGHTS, a song called "Visions" that he co-wrote with Don Henley. I like his voice as much as I do Glenn Frey's or Henley's.

Anyway, this re-release from FridayMusic sounds excellent. All of the original artwork is included, but no liner notes beyond what was in the original release. You'd think they would've included a track-by-track analysis from Felder, especially for the price they're charging, but that's a small gripe. It also would've been nice if they had included the two songs Felder did for the HEAVY METAL soundtrack, the title cut and "All Of You," but again, small gripe.

As far as the music contained within the album, it definitely sounds a bit dated. You can clearly tell it was made in the early 80's. But, as someone who spends most of their time in the 80's via music, movies and TV shows, that's a plus, not a minus. Several songs feature background vocals from fellow former Eagle Timothy B. Schmidt. One song, "Never Surrender," which was co-written with Kenny Loggins and features his background vocals, came out a year before this album, on the FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH soundtrack. It is a particular highlight, along with "Haywire," Asphalt Jungle," and "Night Owl."

If you're an Eagles fan, an 80's music fan, or just want to hear some good music I strongly recommend you check this out. Peace.
