日本国内では流通してないため輸入盤の購入となりましたがCDもDVDも予定よりも早く到着、早速観賞。アメリカでの輸入代行はRAREWAVES社、満足行く取り引きでした。
チープトリックのビートルズ愛が溢れるパフォーマンスが繰り広げられます。カバーとかトリビュートという括りではなくあの楽曲を演奏したいという情熱が伝わる1枚です。DVDはリージョン1なので扱いに注意が必要ですが環境が許せば是非観賞をオススメします。
バン・E・カルロスのドラムによるオリジナルチープ・トリックのライブパフォーマンスが楽しめる貴重な1枚である事も添えておきます。

ベテランバンドが企画モノを発表、それもビートルズの稀代の名作、って、それは普通は「あまりに安易」という意味で誉められた事ではないと思う。彼ら以外なら非難ごうごうではないか。

しかし、デビュー当時からビートルズ直系の後継としてファンを楽しませてきたし、８０年の「オール・シュック・アップ」アルバムではサー・ジョージ・マーティンをプロデューサーに招いた彼ら。満を持して、というか、これだけのキャリアを重ねてきた今だからこそ、風格を見せ付けての登場を個人的には好ましく思っている。

彼ら４人に、サポートミュージシャン数名（ギターやらキーボードやら）、そしてニューヨーク・フィルハーモニック・オーケストラも追加され、ジョーン・オズボーンなど著名ゲストまでコーラス（時にはリードボーカルも披露）参加している。更にいえば、ジェフ・エメリックが録音に参加という部分も通泣かせだ。同時発売のＤＶＤ（リージョンコード１なので要注意）をみると、演劇場のようなゴージャスな会場で、そんなに広くない舞台に所狭しと大人数が上がっている感じ。

内容のほうは文句無しで、ライブバンドとしての荒々しさを失わず、ゴージャスな雰囲気もかもし出している。またタイトル曲の荒々しさから「ホエン・アイム・シックスティーフォー」のコミカルさまでを歌い分けるロビンの歌の上手さに惚れ惚れする。最後のメドレーは、「ゴールデン・スランバー　〜　キャリー・ザット・ウェイト　〜　ジ・エンド」で、生のオーケストラの壮大さは勿論、ポールよりは遥かに男っぽい「ゴールデン・スランバー」に感動いっぱいになる。

ちなみに、彼らの最新作「レイテスト」がかなりビートルズっぽかったのは、この企画ライブの影響大なのでは、と思った。その意味で彼らにも新鮮な刺激を与えたんだろう。

ビートルズのファンも是非聴いてほしいし、もちろんチートリのファンも買いだと思う。（ＤＶＤはリージョンコード１なのでご注意を）

かの名盤を完全リメイクというだけで、憂懼ある行動だと思いますが、その内容も、本家に比べて、アグレッシブに若々しく甦らしています。

Se amate i Cheap Trick conoscete bene, al di là dell'anima rocker che li contraddistingue, le mirabolanti virtù melodiche che ne sono il collante dell'intera carriera. E che sono ispirate, manco a dirlo, ai Fab Four di Liverpool. Qui il quartetto americano paga pegno ai propri idoli mettendo in scena dal vivo, con la prestigiosa New York Philharmonic Orchestra, la propria versione del capolavoro beatlesiano. E' avvenuto in occasione del quarantennale di Sgt. Pepper's... con due live a Los Angeles. Ma se vi aspettavate qualche colpo di genio da Rick Nielsen e compagni no, stavolta dovete accontentarvi della fedeltà pressoché assoluta al disco originale. Certo, le voci non sono quelle di Lennon e McCartney, ma quelle di Rick, Robin, Tom e Bun E, rafforzate da un paio di coristi, non fanno rimpiangere quelle originali. L'orchestra tiene botta e tutto gira per il verso giusto ma la domanda in questi casi resta sempre la stessa: perché? Che senso ha rifare un capolavoro in maniera filologicamente perfetta, o quasi? Un semplice omaggio oppure cosa? I Beatles sono immensi, i Cheap Trick formidablli. Ma né i primi né i secondi hanno bisogno di legittimazione. Quindi, prendiamo l'album per quello che è: divertissement. Se questa è la chiave, tutto fila liscio.

Durch Zufall auf ein Video von diesem Konzert im Netz gefunden. Das erweckte natürlich meine Neugierde. Nun halte ich diese CD in Händen und freue mich über die energetische Präzision dieses Konzertes. Ich habe meinen Spaß, den ich gerne auch weitergeben möchte. Alle Beatles - und Cheap Trick Fans werden sicher auch Freude an diesem Mitschnitt haben. Ich hatte auch nach einer DVD (BlueRay) gesucht, aber nicht gefunden. Das ist bedauerlich.

In this day and age of doom and gloom and hung parliaments what breaks the spell and cycle is the wonderful discovery of a brilliant Cds worth of music.

And this my dear friends is just that.

I saw this advertised, love the music of Cheap Trick thanks to a freebie of their album Latest from Rock Magazine and took a chance.

The magnificent Cheap Trick perform the tracks from Sgt Pepper's live with full orchestra and an small Indian one to boot extra

All the tracks are present and correct and it is wonderfully magnificent in their attack and delivery of it..

The group are on the top of their form and the run through of this terrific album is treated with reverence and respect by all and sundry.

Along with the Electric Light Orchestra I think Cheap Trick come close to sounding like the Fab Four would have had they been able to perform live.

This performance is wonderful and the vocals terrific and the whole proceeds from this wonderful concert and CD release are being put to Prostate Cancer research.

So if you buy this wonderful CD you are not only doing your ears, face and smile a favour you are helping eradicate this terrible disease.

(On a heavier note It is a sad fact that every single male will contract this terrible affliction but the majority will die from other causes before they know it.)

(So f you buy it give yourself a pat an the back for treating yourself to a great Cd and for helping the poor guys everywhere who succumb to this terrible affliction)

I have always loved how the Beatles influenced so many bands that have come after them, Cheap Trick has always been one of my favorites.
We have been given glimpses of Cheap Trick's uncanny ability to sound like the Beatles and still maintain their own unique essence on Daytripper from "Found All the Parts" EP (now also available on the Sir George Maartin produced "All Shook Up" remastered CD w/Bounus tracks), Magical Mystery Tour from their "Greatest Hits" CD, and Cold Turkey from the "Working Class Hero" Lennon Tribute CD.
Now Cheap Trick has finally done what I had always hoped they would do, an entire Beatles project that is great fun for fans of both bands. Cheap Trick is always great live, and this makes this CD all that much more a pleasuable listening experience. . I have never been a huge fan of the Indian influenced Beatles tunes, and I actually love Within You, Without You from this concert, it's simply great, as is the rest of the show, I will more than likely buy the DVD as well. This will be in my heavy listening rotation for quite a while, along with their newest CD of original songs "The Latest", which I love.
A little FYI on Cheap Trick/Beatles connections, Cheap Trick appears on John Lennon's "wonsaponatime" on I'm Losing You. I made a CD for listening in the car which has all of the tracks I have listed above, and it turned out to sound really great with the extra songs I added.

C'est pour fêter l'anniversaire de la sortie de "SPLHCB" 30 ans auparavant et dans le cadre d'une soirée humanitaire de lutte contre le cancer, que Cheap Trick a enregistré cet album. Faut il quand même que nous autres fans (ami qui viens ici, tu es automatiquement adoubé de par ta sagace curiosité ) soyons ...euh, fans justement, pour nous précipiter sur chaque petit caillou lancé sur la route des scarabées. Enfin, bon, c'est le tribut à payer...

D'abord, quelques remarques.
Le livret assez sobre, ne livre que peu d'informations, alors place à l'écoute !
1er constat : les interprétations vocales nous baladent un peu. Certes, la voix de Robin Zander est assez polymorphe, mais quand même. Il est difficile de savoir réellement qui chante quoi. Ainsi, au début de "Fixing a hole", on a l'impression de voir surgir McCartney, impression moins forte sur d'autres chansons du bassiste. La voix de Lennon, elle est moins approchée. Il y a donc certainement des invités au chant et d'ailleurs, certains noms sont présentés dans le livret, mais quant à savoir qui fait quoi ?
Deuxième constat : l'accent nous surprend. On se rend compte avec stupéfaction que le monde entier ne parle pas avec l'accent liverpuldien (oui, oui, je sais ça paraît à peine croyable) car là, on redécouvre l'Amérique : kéleeeydoscope eyes (Lucy In the Sky...), wouaz pour wos (A Day...), Keïte pour Kaïte (M Kite) sauf pour la rime avec tonight...
Troisième constat : la faible participation du public (mais ils sont combien : 12 ?). Cela donne l'étrange et paradoxale impression que parfois, le public est plus présent sur le disque studio (introduction de la fanfare sur SPLHCB) qu'en live.

Mais bon, je chipote, je chipote, tout ça pour ne pas dire de suite que je me suis pris au jeu et régalé de manière indécente (on comprend mieux que certains Cheap trick aient été invités sur l'album "Double Fantasy"). Toutes les chansons sont extrêmement fidèles, donc de ce point de vue, guère de surprise (même hélas la contribution de Georges H), avec des voix un peu en décalage (comment pourrait il en être autrement) par rapport aux originales, mais avec des guitares bien pêchues et beaucoup de tonicité. Quel plaisir aussi d'entendre enfin, dans les conditions du direct, la superbe partie de batterie de "A day in the life" ou la formidable basse sur "Getting better". Et enfin, dernière délicate attention de la part de Cheap Trick : le morceau bonus "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight" d'Abbey Road a été ajouté à l'album mythique.

Alors, la seule question qui demeure est : à quand le renouvellement de l'expérience avec un autre disque des B ? C'est vrai quoi, le cancer n'a pas disparu, non ? Allez Cheap trick, soyez sympas, le White Album c'est sans doute trop de boulot (mais vous pouvez en faire un simple en shuntant Revolution #9 , Piggies et 2 ou 3 autres), mais Revolver ou Abbey road, ce serait jouable, non ?
